Hi,

I was diagnosed with SVT last september. Flecanide controlled it no

problem. When I came off the flecanide in Januaray it returned after 5

days so now I am thinking of getting an ablation done

I am a 27 year old male, who was training for a marathon when this

occured

Has anyone had a similar experince?

What do people think?

MY Electro pysioloigst said that they don't really know what causes

these

Thanks

P

Why did you come off the flec if it controlled it?

I guess I can see a 27 year old not wanting to be on meds (heck, that is my

aim too, but you have more years ahead of you). It was my understanding

that the protocol for ablations was that your afib was not controlled by

drugs, though I did read something I believe by the U of M EP that

suggested ablations might be right for everyone to try to get rid of afib.

I'm not sure ablation ever makes it worse in the long term, but certainly

in the short term it can. You might want to incorporate that into your

schedule and thought processes. (Short term being like 3 months)

Yes, it does happen to young, athletic people though they say you are rare,

if that is any consolation. My EP said " well, by the time you're 80, there

will be a 25% chance you will have afib " . I pointed out that not only was

I not 80, I didn't turn old overnight. Oh my.
