Clonidine should almost never be taken PRN. When it is stopped the BP may soar and all the Sx you mention can occur.

With AME the renin and the aldo will both be very low. HAVE YOU sent us your numbers? I dont recall again a good reason for our data base.

May your pressure be low!

Also have you looked at any of the autonomnic insufficiency/deficiency sites.

Some on our bloodpressureline note this with a big salt load. Have you noted this after say eating out?

How much do you weigh?

May your pressure be low!

Isn't clonidine regarded as an acute BP suppressant, and never a

routine drug for HTN? Because of the rebounding, and need for more and

more?

It is used a lot for day to day treatment of HTN including a patch. I occasionally add it if all other drugs fail as part of a combo of combos.

I weigh 230 and am 5'6" female --- I often get flushed after eating out and also anytime I am anxious, sad, glad, mad, excited --- I flush when my bladder is full and voiding helps --- that explains the drop and up and downs when I take the Clonidine. The last levels I had were an aldo reading of 21 and renin of >0.5 --- what is autonomic deficiency/sufficiencies? Thanks for the help Dr. Grim and Dave --- Missy

Trust you have had test for Pheo?

My guess is that DASHing down to a BMI of 25 will help most of these things.

The only test I had for pheo was the I-131? Scan --- it was the first they have ever done and then lab work for metanepherines --- the only thing notable was high norepinepherine 480 --- the flushing attacks are crazy and often several times a day --- when I was hospitalized for 1 week in June they had me call a nurse and record everytime the flushing episodes happened --- they were trying to correlate it to eating, kidney function, or medication --- but no real pattern --- it would even happen when I was sleeping and wake me up --- crazy ---

I think you are right about the BMI under 25, but my hunger level is always soaring and my pulse raises all the time and is in the 120-130's resting--- they all believe pheo --- but no one can find it --- there is some tumor giving off hormones, what could a pancreatic islet tumor cause symptom wise --- my father also has bloating up like a puffer belly fish and has lt side facial drooping, flushing episodes, and dumping after each meal --- anyone dealing with MEN I or MEN II and taking Spiro --- it is the only drug that has brought some relief for me.

Thanks again everyone --- Missy

  • 1 year later...

Hi everyone,

haven't posted in awhile. I started minocin 5 wks ago and am up to 100

mg 3 days per week.

My question is about liver/gallbladder flushing. I had done some

flushes several years ago. Lately I have been feeling some movement

under my ribs.No pain or gas. I did the olive oil/ lemon drink for a

couple weeks then stopped. I think the movement started after starting

the drink. So i am wondering if that drink would be enough to flush

out stuff. Maybe increasing the oil a bit. I did, on last ultrasound,

have about 4 stones. My diet is good. Should eat more veggies. But I

eat no processed foods. I do eat alotof butter tho.

thanks,laura
