My aunt was just given the Feytonol

patch, she has neurosarcoidosis, she's on prednisone,

receives cytoxan and takes morphine tablets for pain.

Please advise if anyone has had experiences with the

Feytonol patch.

Feytonol patches are actually generic Duragesic patches. I used them about a year ago, and they were wonderful at getting the pain to subside. Each patch lasts 3 days, and then you take off that one, and put on a new one at a different site.

I didn't have any side effects, other than I was allergic to the adhesive. For me, using anything for pain is extremely hard for me to do, as I was addicted to pain meds 14 years ago. Honestly, I'd be more worried for your aunt if she was on Soma and Vicodin or Lortab. Those are extremely addicting. Extremely-- and they wouldn't touch the kind of pain it sounds like she has.

I want to share with you that her having to use such heavy duty pain meds as are her morphine and Duragesic -- what I'm trying to say is that it is a relief to see that her MD's are at least seriously treating her pain issues. This is a good thing-- it really is. Most of us will not be taken seriously enough when it comes to pain. And that is where addiction happens, because if the MD isn't treating it with enough medication, or the right medication, then we start self-treating--and that's when we get into addiction problems.

What your aunt will need from you is your support. She seriously needs this control for her pain, and she'll need you to understand that. Unless she forgets to take off the old patch, she can't overdose with these, and she really can't abuse them. She won't want or need to.

I'm going to pull up an letter a wrote awhile back about the difference in pain management and pain medication addiction.

Sincerely,

Tracie
