In the latest issue of Medscape there is a link to a 24-page article about

Sjogrens.

http://www.medscape.com/Medscape/rheumatology/TreatmentUpdate/2000/tu01/pnt-tu

01.html (I believe the 0s are all number zero, not letter O)

I have been concerned about Sjogrens because sometimes tears will start

running down my face for no reason. Especially in the mornings.

Opthamologist said that kind of excess tearing may be " dry eyes. " Of course

that makes me think about Sjogrens.

According to the article, people who sit in front of a computer a lot are

complaining about dry eyes. For some reason the normal pattern of blinking

is inhibited and they blink less so their eyes are more prone to irritation.

That was put into the article just to alert medical personnel about this

particular problem.

It may be that those of us who work at a computer more than an hour or two a

day should be very careful to look away and blink from time to time. Those

who have Sjogrens should certainly be more diligent about blinking no matter

what they are doing if their tear ducts are not completely useless.

The article said that in Sjogrens the anti-bodies (little beasties) cause

various ducts to clog.

One of the listers works for an Opthamologist..... maybe she can comment

further.

In any case, the article about Sjogrens is 24 pages printed with graphs and

pictures and well worth a read if you are concerned about that syndrome. It

said that Sjogrens is the second most-diagnosed rheumatoid disease after RA

and just before the third....Lupus.
