Kathy,

I used to work for a doc that said a woman should weigh 100 lbs. for the first 5 ft of height, then add 5 lbs for each inch - that would make your ideal weight 137 1/2 lbs. I found that seems to be a good rule of thumb Also means I need to lose 30 lbs. or grow 6 inches taller! I think I'm stuck at 150, but I'm feeling better than in a long time, so I'm not going to worry about it now.

Good luck,

-- Starting the New Year's diet, etc

OK, I did my New Year's Morning weigh and measure, and boy am I happy!

My weight is 154, so I've lost a total of 19 pounds now. I originally set my goal at 130, but I'm thinking that is a little low if I don't want to look like a prune. It's higher than what I weighed most of my adult life, but I'm not sure where to set my goal. Any suggestions? (and DON'T say 154, LOL, I do need to lose some more weight) I'm 5' 7 1/2" tall.

I have also lost a total of 23 1/2". But keep in mind that I measure bust, chest, waist, abdomen, hips, right thigh, right calf, right bicep, and right deltoid.

I'm at goal for my bust, and under goal for my thighs, chest and calves. That said, I think I should reset the thigh goal because I'd like to take a little more off there. Only have one more inch to lose off my waist and two more off my hips and 1/4 off my abdomen. Also 1/2 off my bicep and 1/4 off my deltoid.

So all-in-all I'd say I'm very happy with how this is going. Very slowly, granted, but it's continuing to move along.

Does anyone want to start the weekly or monthly weigh in thing again? Remember no actual pounds, just how much lost or gained? If you do, I'll keep track for everyone. I know that some of our meds make us have trouble losing, but the more we lose the better for our illnesses or at least for the pain.

OK OK I'm in. I really really need to lose weight but I can't do any exercising at all and hell, eating is the only thing I can do that I enjoy LOL I lost a bunch of weight before just by changing my eating patterns but then I decided I'd rather be fat and happy (don't lecture me... I know the rules) So count me in and I am really gonna be good (I say this as I'm eating a piece of pizza for breakfast LOL) OK I'm gonna be good later today.

I do need some hints though: I absolutely hate eating breakfast. Maybe I hate to eat "breakfast food" because the pizza wasn't bad LOL I have to take 15 pills in the morning WITH food so skipping breakfast is out but I HATE it. Even a piece of toast is torture and I just hate mornings. Any thoughts? Ideas? Clues?

Also, does anyone want the 3 ice cream buckets in the fridge? Ronnie went shopping yesterday for "New Year's goodies" and ice cream just calls me from the freezer when I walk by..................

Kathy, you know I hate you right? ;) Congrats though. I can hate you and be proud of you at the same time. hehe

Christy,

I think you found the answer with the pizza. Breakfast doesn't have to be "breakfast food". Just eat something you like even if it's not the same thing the rest of us eat for breakfast. I love breakfast food- waffles, pancakes, sugary cereal, biscuits, steak & egg substitute, ...................

I remember reading that when I was younger and thinking-"OMG! 137 1/2! I'll never weigh THAT much!" LOL. I'd be very happy at that weight!

I think I originally read it in Teen Magazine, LOL.

I figure that you need to weigh a little more as you age, or put up with more wrinkles. I'm sure you're fine at 150, and if you're feeling better that's all that really counts.

LOL--I love breakfast food, but not breakfast. So sometimes we have breakfast for dinner night. I've done this for years. Kayly hated it,LOL.

Breakfast might be the best time for pizza, because you have all day to burn it off and it fills your tummy.

asks me what size I wear before any gift-giving occasion. He still insists I don't look big. I'm flattered, but I wonder about his eyesight. I kept hoping to get back into clothes I had, so I didn't buy clothes. I finally accepted that I'm probably not going to fit them again, so I cleaned out my closet & bought new clothes. I was surprised at how happy is that I have some new clothes. I don't really like shopping, so I get clothes & wear them until they're worn out; now I won't need to buy much for a long time!

-- Re: Starting the New Year's diet, etc

Just tell him! I tried not telling Denny for a while when I was gaining all the weight, but then one day when I was going somewhere and none of my dressy clothes fit I burst into tears with frustration. I finally admitted why. He said "So buy new clothes!" And of course he'd noticed the weight gain anyway.

Fingers are crossed.

I'm not sure what you mean by the plans going to council?

Kathy

Re: Starting the New Year's diet, etc

Kathy,

The house is a series of stops and starts. We haven't even got the plans drawn up yet. The builder we are using has suggested several plans but because of the unusual shape of our land, plus the fact that we need a separate self contained flat for my M-I-L we are having difficulty in getting a house that fits on the land, takes advantage of the views we have and accomodates all our needs etc. that ALSO fits into our budget. We've drawn up about 4 major plans to date (plus changes to each of these along the way) but they are all OVER budget by thousands of dollars. Eventually, just as the builders were going on annual Christmas holidays (everything in Australia seems to shut down for a few weeks over Christmas / summer holidays) we decided that we really loved our last plan and would just have to get more finance to cover the cost of building it. It is approximately the same size as we have here where we live, so we know it will fit us. So . . . when the builders eventually return to work next week, they will find a letter from us telling them to proceed with drawing up and fully costing this last plan. Our hopes are that that will be done by the end of January so that the plans can go to council in February and so that the actual building can start before the end of March. That way we are still hopeful of moving in by September.

But in the meantime we need to get our current home ready for sale (some general maintenance and clean up). We hope to put it on the market in early February. Please everyone keep your fingers crossed for us that it will sell quickly. The market in Australia has suddenly dropped in November and worse still in December due to interest rate hikes. We are all waiting to see what happens when real estate agents start work again in the next week. We HAVE to sell this house in order to finance the building. So, keep your fingers crossed for us that it does sell or we are in dire straights.

How is the house coming along?

My son is getting the kit for his log home Jan 16, so this week the contractor will be setting the pins and I think starting the foundation. I know that they are anxious to get out of the mobile home. LOL--it's older than they are. In fact I think it's the same year as the one I lived in for two years when he was first born.

Christy,

I suppose I am lucky in regards to that at least . . . my husband is totally supportive of me in regards to this weight problem. He even encouraged me to go out to buy new clothes and bras (they were the worst in regards to fit, I just bulged out all over them). He understands that my weight gain is a direct result of the prednisone. It is me who has the problem in accepting that.

Hang in there . . . all of us

I was looking for a sweatshirt yesterday and everything I tried on (from last winter) was too small. I needed a nap after I finished all that ranting and raving! Ronnie doesn't understand why someone with so many clothes still needs to buy more. I'm too ashamed to tell him it's because none of them fit after about 3 months. So I shop and he yells and I feel worse and ..... it's a vicious cycle.

Kathy,

In Australia, once you have your house plans drawn up they then need to be submitted to the local council (local government) to be approved. They must fit all the requirements for the building safety and to suit the area etc. Because we are building in a private estate we also need to get the approval of this estate on our plans as well. The management makes sure that the house we are building will fit in aesthetically to the other homes in the estate etc.

Do you have to do this in America?

Well, we do have some areas which around here we just call developments or complexes, where the plans and any changes you make to your property, including landscaping, must be approved by the community board. I just would never be able to live in one, because although I put up white lights at Christmas, for example, I'd like the option of blinkers or colored lights if I'm in a mood that year, LOL.

And of course any building anywhere has to be up to code as far as septic or sewage, electrical, water, and with the electrical that includes outlets every so many feet, etc. In otherwords the building has to meet the safety codes, and that is determined by the building inspector.

We live rurally so we can build anything we want on our property. I wouldn't have it any other way--even if my neighbor wants a bright pink house, or neon orange, LOL, I figure that's their business. We actually only have two neighbors that we can see from our house. The one is a mobile home that is very old, but they only have an acre, and do keep it up fairly well. The other is probably way better landscaped than we are, LOL.
