Guest guest
l too was diagnosed with severe osteoporsis two years ago from steriods. My doctor told me about 60% loss. Really scared me. What is the percentage of your bone loss? Well he put me on Citracal+D, l glass orange juice a day with calcium and extra magnesium. lt did not reverse my bone loss but according to my bone density test it stabilized. l have not gotten worse, thank god. Perhaps lf you mention this to your doctor you can work out some healty program. l know weight bearing exercise is good for osteoporsis, but with RA it can be very damaging. Hope this helps you. Guest guest
There is a good book written by Dr. Gaby called PREVENTING AND REVERSING OSTEOPOROSIS. He explains all of the nutrients necessary for absorbing calcium. Phyopharmica and Enzymatic Therapy make products that contain the necessary vitamins and minerals. I have read that calcitonin, a nasal spray, can be helpful. Guest guest
Hi Marge, I've recently read a couple of books by Dr. Lee, who is a big proponent of natural hormone replacement therapy, specifically natural progesterone (these are not the pharmaceutical HRT drugs but are made from plants and are supposedly molecularly identical to what your body makes). I find his theories very intriguing... Anyhow, he claims that natural progesterone can actually rebuild bone, which calcium intake and Fosamax cannot do. You might want to get one of his books, especially " What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Menopause " - he has a lot of information on osteoporosis and has some amazing claims about women who had lost lots of bone and regained it by doing the natural progesterone. In fact, I just sent a copy of that book to my mom who has osteoporosis. He also has a website (www.johnleemd.com). He has just about convinced me and I am in the process of getting my hormone levels tested and am strongly considering progesterone therapy (I had breast cancer and read his book " What Your Doctor.... About Breast Cancer " ). Also of interest to this group is that he thinks a lot of autoimmune diseases are influenced by hormone balance issues... You might want to check him out and see what you think. I'd be interested in knowing what you decide.
