Janie, what do you mean by pretty dramatic sexual side effects with Effexor?

I have been taking Effexor for years and I have a very happy sex life.

Depression is part of the package. Some get it; some don't. Some adjust;

some don't. Some get medicated; some don't. I would be happy to have this

conversation with anyone interested off the group site and pvt.

Joygar@.... By career I was a motivational life coach. Notice I said

WAS; I pulled myself out of the game because I felt I was too depressed to

give back what was needed and I would be happy to share my story with anyone.

I have lost over 250 lbs and still get depressed.

Roe - How far post-op are you again? Your depression could very well be

related to the chemical changes happening in your body. I take Effexor and

it works very well for me. But maybe there are some other options for you

before you jump on the anti-depressant wagon. I'd make an appt. with the

doc to talk it over. Take care.

One thing to beware of with Effexor *and* the SSRIs like Prozac and Zoloft

and Paxil and Celexa is that they have sexual side-effects that can be

pretty dramatic.

Roe,

This is my take on the whole depression issue. When I first had my surgery

I didn't realize how depressed I was prior, I knew I wasn't happy, I knew I

didn't like myself, I knew that I had a best friend, one who didn't talk

back, always there, no matter what the situation was it was there " FOOD " .

Now 3 months approx is when I hit my post op depression stage, different for

everyone, but for me, I hit it so low that I didn't realize I was in it

cause i was so used to it pre surgical. Until someone brought it to my

attention. Then I had to snap out of it cause it was harming my life. I

couldn't go to my best friend any more " FOOD " . Friend left me hanging, to

fend for myself now. Now I do still get depressed. I'm actually depressed

as I'm writing this but I know why I'm depressed. And that's where taking a

moment and learning about yourself. We never did that before. We didn't stop

and look at what is making us so upset, and why we are acting the way we

acted, it was just a matter of OH my feelings are hurt and i'm going to eat

this big double dutch choc. lb cake. And thats what we did. Our lives have

changed, we can't do that, we have to look at the whole picture. Sure we

could eat that cake but guess whats gonna happen, one we are going to be

even more depressed for the simple reason we ate it, we are sick from

dumping and depressed cause we didn't figure out why we were depressed to

begin with. Its a whole new life. Yes there is a chance that something

menopausal could be happening, it be that you need to seek help

professionally (nothing wrong w/that either) or just medication. Just let

your self know its ok to be upset and that you have feelings but know the

reason why your upset give your self the chance to know why.

I hope that makes sense. :0)

Hugs and Loves!!!!

Happy Holidays!

Theresa

*Nothing Tastes As Good As Thinness Feels*

-- Is Anyone Else Depressed????

Hi All:

I was wondering if anyone else has been depressed since their surgery.

I have never been depressed in my life but lately I've been getting

these overwhelming feelings of depression that I just can't shake.

Sometimes they last an hour or more and I can't stand it. It feels

like I can't function properly. I have so much to do and I say to

myself how the heck am I going to do all this. That's not me at all.

I ususally have 4 or 5 things going at once and I never have had a

problem accomplishing everything that needed to be done. I'm

wondering if the menapause combined with the weight loss is causing

it. I've read where heavier woman have more estrogen in their bodies

than thin women. Since I lost the weight so quickly, the estrogen

was lost also. Just grasping at straws here trying to come up with a

solution. A friend of mine suggested I try Effexsor. Anyone know

anything about this?

Some people report depressed libido, impotence, anorgasmia, it's more

frequent with the single-action SSRIs but also listed on the package insert

for Effexor. I was anorgasmic for five years on Zoloft.

Ethel - You are definitely not alone in your depression. This is the worst

time of the year to feel like you're missing out on all the great food we

used to be able to eat. It really hit me for Thanksgiving the most. We

don't have a formal sit-down meal for Christmas, so I feel like there's less

pressure. So, let me just say, that if you need someone to talk to, email

me anytime, hon. You're not alone. And that goes for Roe and anyone else

out there, too.

Hi Jeanne:

I'm 8 1/2 months out. I think you're right about not jumping into

medication quickly. To be perfectly honest, I think it's the

combination of the weight loss and menapause. I did discuss it with

my Doctor and she wasn't much help at all. Time to find another

Doctor I think. Thanks for writing.

For that you need Wellbutrin, kiddo. There are published cases of it

triggering spontaneous orgasm.
