Tim,

I exercise every morning and then again right after dinner. I will

give it a try but it might be kinda hard to get into because I don't

go to bed until midnight. That's an interesting thought though

because my normal routine in the evening is to eat dinner around

6pm, then exercise, then watch TV from 7pm till midnight. Maybe my

metabolism really is slowed down during that time. But I wouldn't

know what else to do. :) A MAJOR lifestyle change..... Kat

You are confused. What you are describing is the Somogyi effect not

Dawn phenomoen. Read the differences below.

Somogyi Effect and Dawn Phenomenon

1. Somogyi Effect - rebound hyperglycemia, insulin induced

hypoglycemia triggers off excess secretion of glucagon,

cortisol

leading to hyperglycemia

2. Dawn phenomenon - hyperglycemia elevated in morning due to

circadian rhythm release of growth hormone, no hypoglycemia

during night

Yes, I am confused which one it is but whether I eat something

before bed OR take insulin at night, I still have it and can't get

rid of it. :) Kat

Don't mean to confuse you as I don't even take insulin, but would it

make any sense to ask if you have also tried both and neither?

Then you need to find out what it is. Take a few nights and do 2 or

3 AM readings. If you're low, then it's Somogyi. If it is high then

it's Dawn. You need a few nights though to elimnate any fluke

numbers you may get if you only do it once.

I checked my sugar at bedtime then every 2-2.5 hours till wake-up to

see my paterns and see what was happening.
