Hang in there . You can do it. I must admit that I am living

through your experience, we are about a month apart for WLS and similar

in pre op weight. Remember that there is a goal in sight and you will

be there sooner than you know it. Take it one step at a time, you WILL

do it!

I know what you mean about not wanting to fart (sorry for the lack of a

better word) unless you're on the toilet! I had my first bowl movement

yesterday (day 2 post op). I had several yesterday and several today.

But I won't fart unless I'm on the potty! LOL!

I'm back to the hotel. I'm doing quite well. I have a little bit of

soreness in my tummy area. It really feels more like I did a billion

setups and now have a sore stomach! My swallow test was " text book

perfect " as the doctor said. I've not had to take anything for pain as

of yet. But I do have something just in case. If it doesn't get any

worse than it is right now I'm ok.

I'm scheduled to fly home July 4th; but the doctor said I might be able

to go early. WOOHOO!! I sure hope so because when I get home I'm

getting married! YAY!!!

Hi ,

Welcome to the losing side! I can relate to your swelling and gas pains. As

for the swelling, I kept my legs elevated and wore the stockings provided by the

hospital. For the gas, I found it easier to pass if I rotated lying on my left

and right side. I don't know why, but it worked for me. I too was also nervous

about having an accident, but after awhile I decided " oh well if I do. I'll just

clean up and shower. " I got tired of running to the bathroom everytime I felt

the urge to have nothing happen. Fortunately, I never had an accident.

I hope you find some relief soon.

Drowning in liquids

UGhh! I have only done this for 5 days & the liquids are driving me

crazy!

I've had SF Jello,SF Popsicles,SF Fudgesicles,Water,Crystal Light and

Grape Flavored Water. Only other Sweet thing I had was 3 bowls of

chicken soup broth & I am swelling like mad, even from low sodium soups!

I can't stand all this sweet stuff. I never ate that much before

surgery.

I really want to add something with substance to my diet but am afraid

to move on without the ok from my DR whom I don't see until July 6th.

I know I will be happy once I start losing but this is soooo hard

right now.

The gas is killing me.It seems like everytime I sip I feel the need to

burp or hiccup, which usually won't come out.I also have terrible gas

in the bowel which I am afraid to release unless sitting on the toilet.

Had a BM already yesterday at 4 days post op.Sorry if TMI But I'm sure

you all went thru this & hope some one can shed some light.

Thank you!!!

I didn't have socks either. Not that I could bend over right now to put

them on myself! LOL! I wanted to put my regular socks on; but my

belly's too sore right now.

Have you tried sugar free popsicles or fudgsicles? That'll let you chew

a little...

I am not trying to be funny here, but I know that when I would go sit on the

potty, if you will, I would rub the heck out of my stomach, it reallly helped

next to the walking. Just a thought!

Gonna show it to the doc in the morning to get his opinion. Other than

that I'm fine. I'm walkin the halls of the hotel. It gets a little

easier each time! Tomorrow I think I'll venture out to the store. I'll

have to if I want anymore broth or water! LOL!

Walking gets my gas going. Not long after I walk to halls I gotta go to

the potty! :-)

The swallow stuff was bad; but not nearly as bad as the laxative they

made me take. UGH! That was horrid. It was so salty tasting!

*shudder* It was neat watching the liquid go down when they did the

swallow test tho! :-)

Hi ,

Walking helps me now pass gas, but in those early stages I was unable to stand

for very long. I would have dizzy spells, but I think that was because of the

antibiotic. I had a very difficult first 4 weeks post op. I was

re-hospitalized for pancreatitis for 2 weeks after being home for only one. It

was an awful experience that had me regretting my decision to have the surgery.

Since, things have gotten much better and I am happy with my decision!

As for the stockings, they were called surgical stockings or TEDS. TEDS was the

name brand. They helped prevent blood clots and prevent swelling in the legs.

It's usually customary for all surgical patients to have them. My husband is a

medical student and has worked at 4 different hospitals in this area for his

clinical rotation and he also said it was standard practice to have the surgical

stockings. I wonder too why you didn't have them.

Well, talk to you later.

hahaha it may. Its just that while you are sitting on a toilet, your stomach

seems to get more comfortable with that position. I know this all seems funny

and you cannot help but picture everyone, sorry... but... it really helped me to

move the gas around better in my stomach by rubbing in circles all around the

stomach area, especially when it decided to climb under my rib through the

night, that was the worst of the pain i had after surgery and MAN did that hurt.

Rub rub and rub some more.
