I'm 45 and have been on sotalol (160mgs x2 daily now) for four years. Still

have the drive, desire and ability - though performance is not what it was

prior to taking this medication. My physician said Viagra, Levitra, etc.

were good options for otherwise healthy individuals.

Wow. Now you tell me. I was on Sotalol 160mg x 3 for

several years. I was also type II diabetic and while

I had no trouble getting an erection sustaining it was

sometimes an issue. I took Viagra (1/2 tablet) and

that really solved the problem. I wound up with the

opposite problem on several occasions. Then I met my

wife. She is from Argentina and quite beautiful. I

then found out I did not need the Viagra in most

cases. So it is as much inspriation as medication. I

am now on Flecinaide and hopefully that does not cause

problems. Good luck.

PS...I am 55 and my wife is 29. That is as good as

Viagra any day.

I'm not sure it's accurate to say most people on this board can just

about get up the stairs. A quick look at the database indicates that

about half have Lone Atrial Fibrillation and have an athletic

background.

I still stagger around a hockey pitch and go cycling, even when in

AF. I take Sotalol though I have being trying to cut down on the

dose. It does reduce peak exercise performance - I find it difficult

to get my heart rate above 130 in NSR, disrupts sleep a bit, makes

my hands go a bit colder than normal and does reduce your libido a

bit.

Roll on reliable ablations.

Hi all.

I would be very careful in taking Viagra especially with heart conditions.

Also while I am posting, some heart medications will not tolerate Grapefruit

juice, so Please please read your patient information that comes with your

drugs.

Please remember your Dr and chemist are just like all of us, they get bored

and sometime think that you know what the contra indications are.

When I was first diagnosed with afib 3+ years ago, sotalol was the

first antiarrythmic drug my EP tried. It finally got me back into

rythym at least 4 days out of a week. I was taking the highest dose

recommended for probably 4 months.

I know that plenty of people have had a lot of success with sotalol.

We are all so different in the way drugs act upon us. But my own

experience of the side effects of sotalol, were decreased

concentration, serious feelings of depression, which I had never

experienced before, sometimes a too-low heart rate, sluggishness, no

libido whatsoever, and visual hallucinations. And more, which I don't

recall. Oh yes, a reawakening of bronchial asthma which I had had

many years ago as a child.

I felt better immediately after my dosage was cut back, and finally

went off it altogether.

You are not alone in your experience with Sotalol. But again, many

people take it without the side effects you and I experienced.

Best of luck.

Thanks for your thoughts

I was getting so desperate a few months ago, with the side effects,

that I contemplated maze or a pm to get me off the drugs. I had

tried flecenide, but that made me quite 'twitchy'.

Fortunately a member of this board, who's had a pm fitted,

counselled me to slow down and be cool, he was right.

I'm beginning to see shoots of recovery sincce ablation no 3 , a pvi,

am keeping my fingers crossed, its now 4 weeks post ab

thanks again

Hmmmmm, while I haven't taken sotalol, I would suggest greeting him

with a big smile and a bow and nothing else! I would think if there

are any blood thinners involved that would be enough. The

one " upside " to this entire mess was the effects of warafin for me.

The only problem is if my INR is too high it freaks her out when I

get light headed and pass out....j/k!

So sad a victorian society can't come to grips with the fact that

human sexuality is very important. Maybe I need ot go to finishing

school, walk with a book on my head, or have high tea!

One of the biggest issues mentally I have had to deal with is feeling

like " Damaged Goods. " If we can help a fellow compadre get some and

help alliviate the mental anguish associated with all this then I say

down with Dr. Phil and up with the AFIB Support group!

If we had forums, we could have a humor section, which would be a

nice mix to ease back and laugh as a balance to senior med school,

particle physics education we have all had to undertake!

Go get em . Remember " Once a king always a king, but once a

night is a good start. "

Tally Ho,
