Lupron & Myo / Ann Arbor, etc./LOL

Pam:

Not only are there plenty of ladies who’ve had myos without using Lupron

first – but there is some controversy among doctors about whether or not to

use it before myo. Personally, I suspect that it may well be the same

pharma-hype that got gynos backed into believing that HRT was a proven thing

that’s at work here. Some surgeons feel that shrinking fibroids before

surgery with Lupron is advantageous – others feel that it makes them less

well defined/more difficult to remove & that it may make the tiny fibroids

so tiny they get overlooked entirely – leaving you stuck with fibroids

post-myo – fibroids that could well grow & cause MORE trouble.

My only concern if I were in your situation would be with WHY your doctor

feels it is so necessary – -- maybe s/he is just a victim of pharma-hype,

but I’d make the doc is adequately experienced and competent to remove

fibroids of the size and location you have. If the doc wanted the fibroids

shrunk because s/he wasn’t really capable of dealing with them competently

at their current size/position – I’d bail and find someone else who had the

skills and experience needed. I wouldn’t be willing to risk the possibility

of converting to hysterectomy due to the doc getting in over her/his head.

Lupron has a lot of nasty side effects. I did it for 2 months. I would NOT

choose to do it again – despite the fact mine was 100% covered. It was no

free lunch!!

being born on LABOR Day. My mother STILL refuses to admit that might be at

all humorous. Glitter had her myo there – at University Hospital – my

birthplace (only I think I heard they long-since tore down the building I

was born in – which I choose to regard as “retiring my birthplace”). Look

for some of Glitter’s old posts or try searching on “Ann Arbor” in the

archives. Grand Rapids, MI has also had mention here within the last

several months if I recall correctly.
