First ask your doctor if there is any reason why you should NOT soak in

water

hotter than XXX .

My doc said 100 degrees max for me. Don't know why. My daughter w/AI MS is

not allowed to soak in hot water at all, cannot take baths, must shower.

If the temperature is important be sure that you get a system that makes it

easy to regulate temperature.

The kind of filtration system you have may be important for your skin.

The hospital system with peroxide (no harsh chemicals) or an ozonater may be

best because they don't add Chlorine to the water. We have an ozonater and

when we are going to have a spa party we add Bromine -- less hard on the

skin

than chlorine. When it is just Leo and me we do not feel it is necessary to

use any Bromine because we already have what we are passing to each other.

(:-))

There are perfumed oils that you can add to spa water -- for sale at spa

stores so you assume a few drops will not harm the filtration system. I

like

the Jasmine. Leo doesn't mind it because it goes away overnight.

Jets: Get in the sample tub and see what parts of your bod are apt to be

in

tune with which jets. My tub is pretty cheap and pretty old, has about

1/2

the jets a new one has and I have to really adjust my posture to get the jet

spray where I want it -- especially KNEES (front, sides, back) and HIPS.

And I have to keep it pretty full so the water level does not fall below any

of the jets. So full that I can't lie on the " recliner " along one side

without soaking my hair or maybe getting water in my ears. Make sure a

recliner has the back elevated enough to prevent that.

If you have to squirm down to get a certain part of your back, shoulders,

hips, near a jet you have the support of the water but you can also risk

injuring yourself if the posture is straining anything.

Someone on the list said that if they had to do it over again they would get

a 6' tub instead of a 5' tub. Ours is 6' and lets me stretch all the way

out

on the water.

LOCATION: Our spa is on the deck outside our bedroom. That means we take

guests through our bedroom to get to it or they walk all the way around the

deck from the living room (deck is continuous on three sides of house).

Having it by the BR is really nice: 1) easy to shower and jump right in the

spa (yes, skinny dipping works in the moonlight); 2) keeps it private if we

have house guests who don't want to use it and we do; 3) we don't track

water

throught the house on the way to the bathroom after a dip; 4) guests using

the tub with us can use the Master Bath with the same " right there "

convenience if necessary.

If you consider having a spa on a deck then you need an underdeck utility

space for the plumbing. Has to have some insulation and access for repairs.

May cost more than a different kind of installation.

Disadvantage of deck installation is need for water source. Depending on

distance deck is off the ground that may mean a pipe from a lower story up

to

a second story.

Otherwise fill the tub with a garden hose.
