Guest guest
Hi all, Okay, I started Methotrexate last night. I also remembered to ask the dr. for a script for Folic Acid, which she gave me. Is there anything else I should know about, be prepared for, etc.? I started out 1 last night, then 2 next week, then 3 the following week; a week after taking 3, I need bloodwork. How often will/should I be getting blookwork? Thanks... Joan P.S. I slept a lot today ... but, I don't think it would be from the MTX already (correct?) ... Today's sleeping was similar to that of last Thursday ... fell asleep while sitting up and supposed to be awake, etc. (Oh, I mentioned this to the dr., she looked in my throat and said it was narrow and sending me for sleep study; regarding the entire leg edema, she indicated I could be holding water ... well, I've held water often, and my entire legs never go like that. I know I'm not dehydrated because I drink several quarts of water a day. Any other ideas?) Guest guest
I must be lucky 4 pills is all I take and mine are stretched out over a 4 day period. No side affects and the Folic really helps. I take mine at 8:00AM Monday thru Thursday SharonDebbie wrote: Hi Joan , When are you taking your Methotrexate? I used to take mine (the 8 mtx pills and the folic acid pill around 6pm on a Sun. night. , mainly because it would knock me out and Mon & Tues would be good days for "blah" days. Those were the two days in my schedule that I didn't schedule anything or that I usually had nothing going on so the side effects of the MTX wouldn't mess up my week. My dr had told me that people that worked usually took them on Fri. nite so they had the "blahs" on the weekend. That must have been awful for these people . Their only time off during the week and they had to feel sick from the side effects. But anyway, thats how I used to handle it. Luv, Debbie Oh Lord, ... I have been sleeping since I took 1 pill! ... I can't imagine taking 8! ... how do you stay awake at all?!?! I slept til noon today and only awoke because the phone rang. I went to sleep at 12:00 last night ... plus, I slept a lot on and off yesterday! I just found myself with my head on my keyboard ... oh, and I fell out of bed again at 7:00 this morning and hit my head on the end table. What a mess I've become! Thank you for responding!...time to go to sleep again...hopefully, I'll make it to the bed and not sleep on my keyboard again!, Joan Joan, The MTX will make you very sleepy. If you don't take the folic acid you will feel even crappy than you normally do. I take 8 pills every Saturday at 12 noon. Guest guest
I have been sleeping since I took 1 pill! ... I can't imagine taking 8! ... how do you stay awake at all?!?!What strength are you on (I'm assuming it is the weakest strength - 2.5 mg's; I read something interesting ... I did a search on "bilateral leg edema" ... and guess what came up all over the place? ... sleep apnea! ... I guess I do have it, and think these people should really test me in the day ... yesterday, I woke up at 7:00 a.m. after falling out of bed again and hit my head on the nite stand; some time in the mid afternoon, I woke up with my head on my keyboard -- I had fallen sound asleep and went forward vs backward and simply fell asleep in my computer chair as I have been doing frequently.) Guest guest
Hi Joan, I started on 2 (2.5mgs) first week, then 4 next week, then 6 next week, then blood test, my liver enzymes were up slightly, but he had me stay on that dose and had another blood test and the enzymes were coming back down, I have stayed at 6 pills a week, and my blood test went back to normal values. I have been on the Mtx now for over 18 mos. The beginning I was tired, and had GI problems, no nausea, just diarrhea (I call it the blast from the a--) I only get it once in awhile now, but in the beginning it was several days a week. So my body did adjust to it. In the long run I am so glad I stayed on it, it is so much better then the prednisone, and I fear I would still be on that without the Mtx. I hope you can adjust to it!! Take care and God Bless, Marla Re: Methotrexate and all, Do you remember what dose you started out on? ...
