Guest guest
Dear Yoon, Your wife needs to stop the IV Cleocin immediately and discuss the diarrhea problem with the doctor prescribing it. It might be a side effect of the Cleocin. I refer you to the Frequently Asked Questions section on www.rheumatic.org for more information. Guest guest
Dear YaeHo, Diarrhea is often a consequence of taking antibiotics, which kill beneficial bacteria in the intestine. The remedy is to take a probiotic to replenish the intestinal bacteria. In the U.S., probiotics are available in capsule form in the refrigerated section of health food stores. Look for a brand that lists multiple types of bacteria. I have stopped taking probiotics in capsule form, except when traveling. Instead, I now take two heaping tablespoons of live yogurt in the morning and evening. Be sure that the yogurt provides " living cultures. " The yogurt I am taking is French Village Nonfat Yogurt from Trader Joe's. It lists the following cultures: S. Thermophilus L. Bulgaricus L. Acidophilus and Bifidus In the U.S., the National Yogurt Association (NYA) established its own criteria for live and active culture yogurt in conjunction with its Live & Active Culture seal program. In order for manufacturers to carry the seal, refrigerated yogurt products must contain at least 100 million cultures per gram at the time of manufacture, and frozen yogurt products must contain 10 million cultures per gram at the time of manufacture. This level was based on a survey of leading research scientists involved in clinical studies of the health attributes associated with live and active culture yogurt. The Live & Active Culture seal to all yogurt manufacturers whose products, both refrigerated or frozen, contain a significant level of live and active cultures.
