Sim,

Just curious... do you think it was necessary to clear the synthroid

out of your system before starting Armour? Why couldn't you have

decreased one while starting another?

It seems to me that being without thyroid med would have made you

crash, did it?

Glad Armour is working so well for you!

Hi Crystal;

Well, first we have to keep in mind that we are dealing with an

endocrinologist in this situation ; ) That said, I guess I'm just

happy that he even prescribed armour , or else I'd still be sitting

here with nothing, cause my armour from myrxforless has not come yet.

That being said, he told me that he wanted to see if the

synthroid was causing the bad symptoms, or maybe it was something

else, like the actual illness itself. Turns out, I think that both

he and I are satisfied that the synthroid did cause some bad mood

related symptoms.

By the time I was taken off synthroid, there was nothing to

really crash from. I felt so terrible on the darned stuff; that just

getting off of it and regaining my perspective on life was worth any

thing else.

By the time I started armour, however, two weeks later, I was

pretty tired and sluggish with ice cold feet , hands and nose.

Fortunately, the whole family understood from day one that I was a

synthroid experiment, so everyone was pretty understanding. But it

took the full two weeks being off synthroid to get to that point. It

also really made me see the difference with armour.

You can completely get off Synthroid one day, and onto Armour the

next, as long as you are able to raise the introductory dose of

Armour fairly soon. If you have a stupid doc who only gives you one

month of 1/4 grain, for example, yes, it would be wise to stick with

the Synthroid a bit.

There is no equivalent dose of Armour to Synthroid. The equivalency

charts are supremely off and too low.

And Carolyn has it right--there is no need to get the Synthroid out

of your system before starting Armour. Another ridiculous doctor

statement.

> I went off 125mcg Synthroid (ran out of my Rx) for about a week

before I started taking the 15mg generic Armour my newest dr

prescribed. Without the Synthroid & on such a low dose of Armour I

crashed & went into a funk, felt worse & worse until I started

upping my dosage of Armour gradually. Now I'm at l l/2 grains &

still not feeling perfectly well but somewhat better in some areas,

worse in others. So I'm still not on high enough dosage & will

continue to upgrade it until I feel more human again.

> But I see no reason stop the Synthroid for two weeks first. As the

folks on here told me, just cut back on the Synthroid a bit

depending on how much Armour you start on. Then after two weeks of

raising the Armour by l/4 grain a week, stop taking the Synthroid.

If you're on an equivalent dosage of Armour to the Synthroid, then

take l/2 a pill of Synthroid for about 2 weeks if I'm understanding

this right. The others will let you know tho. This has just been my

experience with it. I think I should have stayed on the Synthroid

until my Armour dosage was at least equivalent to it.

Hey Caroline;

Thanks for the advice. I hope that you continue to feel better

and better. Never give up; you'll get there! especially with this

great list! These people rock!

Have you ever tried l-tyrosine? I supplement with that, DMAE,

very strong E's, C, and B-complex, and I find that this tweaks the

thyroid meds even more.

I was only on 25 mcg of synthroid, and that was only for two

weeks. The first few days I felt much more energetic, but slightly

shaky. From there, things started to go downhill.

Uhoh. Hubby is ranting because he wants us all to do the holiday

shopping .Gotta go

Talk to you soon!

I was on all those supplements except DMAE (what's that?) plus scads of others.

Had to stop taking them all due to severe acid indigestion & hiatal hernia I

developed. So am taking only what I can digest now & that's all. So far only E,

B-complex w/C & that's about it & not all at the same time.

Changed my diet too to mostly alkaline...had to in order to get the aciidity

under control. So we'll see how it goes & what I can add again later. So far so

good tho...am doing much better today than yesterday when I was miserable with

the stomach problems. Could have an ulcer too. Don't know yet. Got to ask my doc

& get tests when I see her again in a couple of weeks. Good luck & continued

feeling better to you too.
