Jack,

Brand name Minocin is now being manufactured in the U.S. by a company

called Triax, but their pricing is sky high. See

http://www.drugstore.com/pharmacy/prices/drugprice.asp?ndc=00005534418 & trx=1Z500\

Reports are that pelleted (or pelletized) Minocin is available at

much lower cost from Canada, as manufactured by Stiefel Canada Inc.

See for example

http://www.smartmedcare.com/Pharmacy/Prescriptions/M/Minocin

Minocin is also available from Canada as Minomycin. See for example

http://www.drugdelivery.ca/s41402-s-MINOCIN.aspx

http://www.freedom-pharmacy.com/Products2.asp?Brand=Minomycin+(Minocycline%2C+Mi\

nocin+Oral) & T=m

A tell-tale mark of real Minocin is that it is pelleted, as opposed

to powdered. If you want real Minocin, phone the pharmacy and ask if

their product is pelleted.

Many of our group members are now trying generic minocycline, which

is ten times less expensive than brand name Minocin. For example, see

the first link of this email. My compilation of feedback from our

group suggests that generics by Teva and should work, but a

lot more feedback from our group members is required. Please see

Sincerely, Harald

The drug is still being manufactured. Just take your prescription to your

pharmacy and they will have it filled. Be sure your doc fills in the box with

" DAW " and gives you 5 months refills. I go to Boston to see my doc twice a

year. The r est of the time, my local rheumatologist checks my blood work and

refers me to any specialist I made need for other symptoms or complications.

" DAW " maeans dispense as written and you won't get a generic. If your pharmacy

can't get it go to another pharmacy or order it from a mail order pharmacy. I

do. It's called Precision RX 1-866 -273 -1256 and they take Medicare part D

and Medicaid. I get 90 days worth each time. Good Luck, Dolores

Jack. Lederle was purchased by Wyeth several years ago and became part of

that company. Then the right to make Minocin was purchased from them by

another company that specializes in dermatology medicines. It is still made, and

still called Minocin, and still to my knowledge the only one that is time

released. Some folks have done quite well on the generic minocycline, but most

of us have found the origional time release formula the best by far. Just,

unfortunately, way more expensive than it should be considering how long it

has been on the market. Probably because for some reason, none of the other

companies have made minocycline time released. Martha

Martha,

I found the information on Wyeth's minocin on their website:

http://www.wyeth.com.cn/english/Products/minocin.asp

http://www.wyeth.com/products?page=2 & letters=all & fromLetters=all

But.... My question for you is this....

Where did you read that this was " time-released " ?

How did you find out that it performed better?

I checked with my Compounding Pharmacist in Michigan, and they said that no

generic or brand-name versions of Minocin are time-released.

I'm not saying that you're not correct, but I am trying to verify what you're

saying. I have been on a generic version of Minocin for 2-1/2 years without yet

achieving remission. And, I want to re-evaluate my plan.

Thanks!

~Jeff

I took the real thing Minocin and had a reaction to

it. Then I switched to brand and am still using

it with slow results. been on it since January 2006.
