Guest guest
I just joined the group last week. I have MCTD. I was fortunate to find out about the Antibiotic therapy after having joint pain and stiffness, along with muscle weakness for only four months. It began in June 2002. For five years previous to this, I had unexplained skin problems, and having no health insurance, didn't see a doctor, but tried treating it on my own. My skin gradually got better, then the disease internalized. I had pain and swelling in my ankles, feet, hands, wrists, and knees, as well as a painfully stiff neck. I was not able to drive, or lift even a cup of coffee with one hand. The flares moved around the various joints at different times. Once my foot was so painful I wasn't able to walk, and needed to use crutches for two days. My Achilles tendons are still a problem leaving me with a slight limp. And my wrists are a little weak. The latest flare was a violent reaction in my right hand after stressing it too much. I had to go to emergency for two shots of Demerol to ease the terrible crushing pain in my swollen hand. It felt like my hand was dying! I took strong pain relievers for about two weeks after that to be able to get some sleep. After a month it is much better, but there is still a little nerve damage in the thumb. In August I was very lucky to discover " The New Arthritis Breakthough " in my library. I then found a doctor mentioned in the book who practices in town, PA, a 50-mile drive from my house. He is very good. He is a Naturopath as well as a M.D. I have been on AP since mid-October, after five days of Clindamycin IVs. My doctor also had me do an internal cleansing… something he has all his patients do in the beginning. I am taking 1 capsule of Tetracycline (500 mg.) three days a week. I am also taking a natural thyroid supplement, Westhroid. My body temperature is naturally low, and he thought I needed this. I have always had a problem keeping my weight down, even eating very little, and wisely. After the flare in my hand, he thought I would do well on some pills he calls China Pearls. They are sold as Fong Ton Pills by a company called Heaven Dragon Brand. This is their web address. http://www.opane.com/bloodbonmusf.html The pills contain twenty different herbs for healing and pain. I began taking them two days ago, and cannot believe how much better I feel! Even the stiffness and pain in my Achilles tendons is mostly gone. My muscles are stronger, I have more energy, a happier mind, and I can tell that I don't have as much fluid retention. I am a new person! I even have been able to give up the Naproxen which I've been taking for six months. I wanted to tell people who are suffering with any of the connective tissue diseases that I am sure the Antibiotic Therapy is working for me. Even after only three months I can see a difference. And I also recommend trying the Fong Ton Pills. My doctor started me taking six pills morning and evening for three days. I am then to take three twice a day for three more days, then reduce the amount until I feel it is still working for me. I enjoy reading all your posts. Sharing problems and giving support is a real help to people who often are house-bound because of their illness. Joanne Z.
Guest guest
Dear Joanne Z, You wrote; " After the flare in my hand, he thought I would do well on some pills he calls China Pearls. My father started taking a herb from Hong Kong in the mid 70's called Choufong Toukawon and they helped him tremendously. He had RA and had become horribly deformed, with his joints starting to fuse and constant pain. While this herb he took had about the same number of herbs as your China Pearls it also had trace amounts of steroids. He recommended them to a friend who, at the time, happened to be Warden at The Atlanta Federal Penn. They helped him as well, but the Warden decided to take them to the crime lab for analysis. This is how we found out about the trace amounts of steroids. Here's a brief description; They looked like tiny black balls of tar that have been hand-rolled, bigger than a B-B, smaller than a Skittles candy chew, had to be kept refrigerated (This is where my dad kept them anyway) leaving a very strong odor, wherever they were kept and you had to take several in the morning and several at night, which my dad reduced over time. I'm not trying to scare anyone but, I personally, would rather be informed. My dad, who'd always been thin, got a huge belly and a buffalo hump which, from what I've been told is a redistribution of fat in those two specific areas due to steroids. On that note my father had never taken steroids, NSAIDs nor anything but aspirin and herbs for his arthritis, except once, when he was hospitalized for heart problems. There, they gave him Indocin. This was only because the hospital would not allow the herbs. After his hospital stay he returned to his regular routine of herbs and aspirin.
