Re: Crappy first postop ortho appointment

Cheryl,

How disappointing! I'm whining and all I have are 3 light bands so

far! They cause enough pain, I can't imagine what the medium or heavy

bands will cause! I don't like to even take mine off to eat because

it's more uncomfortable putting them back on. I only eat without them

if I have a blowout mid-meal!

Well, at least you know you're almost to the end of the orthognathic

road. Maybe not quite as far as you'd like to be, but each day, we're

all a little closer!

I was afraid to ask. I didn't want to start bawling in front of a

whole treatment room full of teenagers. I know that I go back to the

doc in four weeks....and I intend to wear these little monsters

faithfully until then. Maybe I'll get time off for good behavior.

Hi Marsha,

I hope that you never have to be introduced to the heavy elastics.

They are tight. Probably not much different from what people are

banded shut with, except that I can talk with them on, and sometimes

people even understand me when I attempt to. This too shall pass.

Your concern helps, lots.

I agree, Cheryl.

While we're uh, complaining... It particularly irks me that mine are

almost all on one side, and especially the heaviest one, that little

1/8-inch 8-oz sucker, has nothing to balance it on the other side.

Which is probably the general idea. And then there's the rhomboid

across the front, which is in just the right places to catch my lips

at the corners whenever I hope wide, but too narrow to get a spoon

(or anything else, including soup) through.

Sigh.

Ok, mine are ALL 1/8 " and 8 oz!!! No fair.

And I have an inverted triangle and a rightside up triangle (nice

geometry skills) on the SAME tooth on each side. Those poor two

teeth have had it, lemme tell you.

That hurts, just thinking about it. I hope I am not headed for the

Cheryl, I'm so sorry to hear about your new hurdle! I just got really

tight elastics for the first time (after way-too-many-months in

braces), and they are so restricting, at first I thought I must have

the wrong bands by mistake. But, no such luck. I can't speak very

well, can't lick an envelope, can't fit an aspirin in my mouth... So

you have all my sympathy (only if I were telling you out loud, you

would probably have absolutely no idea what I was saying). Hang in

Cheryl, I haven't experience the elastics yet in my 2-1/2 years of

orthodontics. Although the rest is sure true to par (spitting, food lodging,

holes in the cheeks). Thanks for the warning. I'm only five days post-op

and I'm sure that elastics are part of my future.

off my now..no such luck I guess.

Yes, welcome to my world. The rubber bands suck. They stain like

crazy too. Hopefully this means we're near the end of treatment.
