Guest guest
Hi Becky, Form what I have seen, the usual stay is about 3-4 days for open, usually a little less for lap. I was an exception, I was in for 6 days (I couldn't wait to get out of there!)I had a longer surgery, my liver was really big and hard to work around, so I they wanted to be cautious with me. I stayed out of work for 6 weeks, even though my job isn't very physically demanding. Looking back, I'm glad I did, I went through a lot of emotional stuff during that time, and I got tired fast. My advice is to plan to take as much time as you can. If you feel up to going back to work sooner, its easier to do that, then to try to get your time off extended. Guest guest
Hi, Becky! I had my open RNY on a Friday afternoon (08/01/03)and was released the following Thursday afternoon. My doc puts all of his patients in ICU the 1st night, but I stayed a 2nd night because of some complications coming out of the anesthesia (seems that I forgot how to breathe! LOL!) Also had some complications with the stuff in the IV bags... However, I went back to work the day after my doc removed my staples and g-tube. I was out a total of 12 working days, including 1 day for " prep day " the day before surgery. I should add that an acquaintance who had her open RNY immediately after me (we met through our doc's support group) spent 1 night in ICU and was released Tuesday afternoon. Good luck! > How long do you usualy stay in the hosp after surgery? and how long > does it take to get back to work. Guest guest
My doc would have let me go home the day after surgery if I had felt up to it. I had surgery on Friday and went home Sunday. Guest guest
I stayed two days, but I know someone else who stayed 24-hours. Each person is different. Mine wasdone on a Friday so they may not have been in that big of a hurry....the one requorement was that I couldn't go home till I had a bowel movement.
