Guest guest
Why do doctors want to do biopsies on a skin rash? There are several skin conditions that are similar to the rash and lesions that appear on the face and body of the Lupus patient. This is why a biopsy should be done of the rash to determine what is causing the rash or lesion. One of the conditions is called Pityriasis rosea. Pityriasis rosea is a skin disorder involving characteristic rash. Although pityriasis rosea may occur in more than one person in a household at a time, the disorder is no more common in married couples or large households than it is in other people. If the cause is viral, it is not thought to be highly contagious. Treatment usually involves gentle bathing, mild lubricants or anti-pruritic creams, or mild hydrocortisone creams may be used to soothe inflammation. Oral antihistamines may be used to reduce itching. In Pityriasis rosea, sunlight or UV light treatment HELPS to heal the lesions. Sunlight and UV rays cause a worsening of the rash in the Malar rash of Lupus. This is why it is so important to determine the cause of the rash, for a healing treatment for one would be a disaster for the other.
