Guest guest
I don't remember if I already sent this info. Some of you might remember that I developed an ulcer on my left foot Dec. 2003 when I dropped my Microsoft optical mouse on my foot. I have been going to a vascular surgeon since the following March. Finally, last June, a new provider ordered home health which has been a godsend for me. In March, the nurse case manager decided we should use something other than silvadene. She began using aquacel, and my would is healing...yipee. One measurement was 5 cm.:-(( The other thing is & extra healing cream which comes in a tube. A home health nurse on a nursing list wrote about the sucess she was having in healing even with patients who had physicians who wanted amputations. But I would take it internally. The first thing is to identify what is actually going on. These posts are all speculating and giving suggestions based on that. It is hard to know from your posts what it really happening. The condition is called a wound but then called contact dermititis. I'm calling it a wound because to me that's what it has become. It began as a blister. The first blister was on his elbow and is healing well; days later he got the blister on his lower abdomen. I'm assuming from past skin issues that he came in contact with something outside. He once had an allergic reaction to weed bug bites that resulted in weeping blisters/hives---dozens of them all over exposed parts of his body. These are very different conditions. That being noted here are a couple of thoughts to share: I use Calendula lotion on wounds and have avoided stitches in several injuries with deep gashes. Calendula is a natural antiseptic and antibiotic and is very safe to use. The lotion does not cut air off from the skin nor does it hold in inflammation. Something else that I have used to draw infection is golden seal root powder which is made into a paste with a bit of water and applied onto the infection. You can keep it covered litely to prevent the dried paste from breaking off. I would also take echinacea and golden seal internally either as a tincture or use the herb to make a tea. Golden seal is bitter which makes tincture easier to take, particularly with a child. Vit D3 is often needed internally as most people are seriously deficient in this nutritient. Also, Vit C might be increased to bowel tolerance to help fight infection. There are a number of other nutritional and herbal things that can get added to the mix. But if this has become a serious internal infection, I would talk with a good homeopath and have the case properly taken and avoid the herbals which people tend to pile on. I would do anti-inflammatory nutrition, including the Vit D3 and Vit C internally along with homeopathy. And use the Calendula lotion topically. But the question is if this is really a wound or an internal condition expressing itself. I'm, of course, wondering this as well and hoping that his daily regimen of acidophilus, fish oil, colostrum, elderberry, and lomatium(antifungal/antibacterial/anti-inflamatory) will keep the worst at bay. I'm also wondering if this is one of those ocassions when an antibiotic is in order. We never use them and I really don't want to now. He not been the least bit sick (other than with his ongoing sinus issues) to suggest that this is a systemic issue. t tanya
