Guest guest
It's a scam - don't open the attachment or you will get a virus. The spammer is harvesting email domains (eg: @kslaw.com) from the group and falsifying the source address of the virus-infect messages. There is nothing that can be done about this. rheumatic Important notify about your e-mail account. Guest guest
More on the e-mail harvester spoofing the group user emails to propogate a virus... You may get bounced messages (that you never sent) due to the virus writer programming the spoofed addresses as return addresses. I got a 'bounced' email and that identified the virus payload that is being carried: Note the very long file name: " msg.txt----------------------------------------------.scr " I used dashes to replace the blank spaces in the file name. The virus writer's idea here is to trick the recipient into believing they are opening a plain text file when in fact it is a program (.scr=screensaver) that carries a malicious payload (worm_netsky.p) Here is the warning data: ------------------ Virus Warning Message (on IMS-02) Found virus WORM_NETSKY.P in file msg.txt ..scr The uncleanable file " msg.txt ..scr " is moved to /etc/iscan/virus/virhgxb9D. Guest guest
This spam is getting to be a major problem to most people on the net. I have my provider account set to filter spam My Mac at home further filters any spam which got through And every day I end up with 50 or so real messages out of 300 spam Yesterday I got a message from my own email address warning me I had done something unforgivable... Sometimes I think I should get a new email account and start again. Chris. Mike Stahl writes: > It's a scam - don't open the attachment or you will get a virus. Guest guest
Hmm, perhaps I got this because I have introduced myself? Well, I am Robyn, and was diagnosed with Graves disease about a month and a half ago. I am finding the information here so useful. I was wondering, what should i do now. I am on a medication called neo-mercazole. Its Carbimizole, 30 mg/day. I am going to see the endocrinologist again on Friday. SHould I ask about Bone Density Scans? Should I ask about other options like acupuncture? I can tell my heart rate has gone down and I am not losing weight any more, but I would like to not have to take tablets forever, and also avoid an operation, or RAI treatment. THanks for all your help. Guest guest
Be careful with this kind of email. They are trying to get your personal information, passwords. You don't want to respond to this kind of emails. Pam
Guest guest
My question is how are these spammers getting onto our list and why isn't someone weeding them out before they get to us? Sandy
Guest guest
So far as I can tell they are getting to almost all lists. As long as they are hitting lists and NOT my personal address I feel better. I assume that anyone can join this list, that it is not monitored which each individual member approved. That makes it a bit easier for spammers. Guest guest
I see. I didn't know that this list wasn't monitored. That explains that new pictures posted to the list message that appears from time to time. Sandy

Guest guest
no, its not all that complicated. Those that post regularly are not moderated. You set the settings to moderate automatically when they first join. Once they post you can usually figure out if they are thyroid patients or spammers, its pretty obvious really. So you really are only moderating their first post and then you lift the moderation. I run two lists at and its not a big deal at all. And it does cut down on alot of spam, porn etc. And spammers will see that the list is moderated and not join in the first place. Spammers are notorious for targeting non moderated lists. Believe me, it has helped my lists alot. Both lists have well over 300 people on them. Patti

Dear Margery, It's true I'm one of the original subscribers, but, like you, I just joined the group--I had nothing to do with setting it up. I have no idea how to unsubscribe--I'm really sorry. The only thought I have is to go to iThyroid.com (our sister site), and see if is still running that site and actively participating. Maybe you can contact him there, and ask him to take you off this list. Others on this list may know more about the technical end of things to help you unsubscribe. Good luck, AntJoan
Guest guest
I would be willing to help out too, and I know how to use and set up the group preferences, etc. Heck my group was around when it was still onelist !! I'm getting old I guess <grin> If you can't get in the contact with the original owner of the list, then we can just make another list, same name but add the number 2 after the hyperthyroidism2 and have all the list members move over there. There are not that many on this list, or at least active ones, but its pretty simply to move the members list to another group. Just some idea's I'm throwing out there. I'm willing to help out if need be. I run two business's but I always check mail because I get orders in thru email....so I am on the computer at least 2x daily on busy days, more on slow days or when I'm home. patti
Guest guest
I have joined, left, rejoined many of the mailing lists devoted to thyroid, including this one. The unsubscription process works. One must send an email FROM THE ADDRESS RECEIVING THE LIST MAIL, not from any OTHER address, to hyperthyroidism-unsubscribe and THEN ONE MUST REPLY TO THE MAIL RECEIVED FROM TO CONFIRM THE REQUEST TO CONFIRM. It works. The alternative is to sign in to and go to the mailing list's website and unsubscribe and make the changes there. The mail method is easier. BUT YOU CANNOT MAIL FROM AN ADDRESS THAT IS NOT IN SUBSCRIPTION BECAUSE SUBSCRIPTION COMPUTERS ARE TOO DUMB TO HANDLE THAT. Guest guest
there is a link right at the bottom of this email that will help you to unsub from the list. You will need to log in to , and go to your group settings and unsub yourself from this list. But you will still need your login name and password.
