What to tell a friend

Beth,

If you notice your friend with the redness again, I would tell her about rosacea

and suggest she see a dermatologist. It's better to know and treat early than

to

let the condition worsen. I know this from experience because I now realize I

had

rosacea a good 3-4 years before I was diagnosed. And that was during my

peri-menopause period. After my diagnosis, a friend with rosacea said she had

always noticed how red I got when I exercised. By the time I looked in a

mirror,

however, the redness had subsided or else just looked like healthy coloring. I

also had two incidents of burns, one on my chin from sun and one on my cheeks

from

wind and was diagnosed with dry eyes during this time. But I didn't get

full-blown rosacea until a year ago after elective surgery during which I had

taken two rounds of steroids. If I had known I had rosacea, I certainly would

have treated my skin differently.
