In addition to where you purchase, I think price is influenced by production

costs (biologics like Rituxan costing lots more than chemical compounds), the

need for the company to recoup Research Development and Clinical testing costs,

and Scale - the fewer indications (uses) and clients who can pay for it, the

higher the cost must be to make up for R & D - which is about 1 billion dollars

per drug.

In the US it can be argued that the rising uninsured population is driving costs

up for those who can still afford to pay.
