Thats an interesting thought! I hadnt considered it as an option yet as the job hasnt been definetely given to me yet. I will know more this week after I talk to the director of nurses. I have no idea what they have for software or whether they make any for this type of data entry though I am willing to bet they do! Thank you Donna

Guest guest
Donna, Its called a Voice Activation Program. One Brand Name is called Dragon Speak. The biggest problem that some have with them, is either too much background noise, or, they are unable to speak clear enough for it to make sense of the words. From what I hear, you have to speak perfectly clear. Especially considering it sounds like you work in a Nursing home/Hospital, they should be one of the first to realize, that they HAVE to accomodate anyone who is disabled.....whether its one of their patients, or one of their Staff. It would be against the Disability Laws for them NOT to provide this program for you along with any other special equiptment you may need. I havent had a chance to look at the type of program that it uses so I dont have the faintest idea how it runs or anything. > Especially considering it sounds like you work in a Nursing home/Hospital, > they should be one of the first to realize, that they HAVE to accomodate > anyone who is disabled.....whether its one of their patients, or one of > their Staff. Over the past 6 months I've lost alot of respect for them, however they are paying my medical bills at the moment (or rather their insurance co is) so I'm not going to complain too loudly. However, when/if they do finally decide to give me this job I will ask them to look into it as Im sure a time is probably going to come when it may become a necessity. Thank you for the information (hugs) Have a great day! Donna
Guest guest
I plan on purchasing Dragon Speaking when I buy my new computer next week. Re the employer's need to provide "reasonable" accommodate for disabilities, don't get you hopes up too high. My employer agreed to my being able to dictate reports, etc. but stated that the agency could not afford voice recognition software at this time. Dictation is a hassle and a half when you are trying to crank out 14 - 16 page reports and composing as you write but technically my employer is within the ADA laws. Guest guest
I use Dragon Naturally speaking at home. In fact this is how I do most of my e-mails anymore. It can be a pain, but when it works right it is wonderful. I also have a small dictation recorder that I use at work to record meetings etc., because I can't read my own writing anymore when I take notes. The new Dragon Naturally Speaking Preferred 7 lets you save the the recordings as wav. files to your computer. It does not do a good job of transcribing meetings from the recorder because of so many different people talking. I just listen to my recordings in my headphones and say it back into my computer at home to record minutes, etc in a word document. It takes some getting used to, but it does save on typing and on my arm a bit. Sandy T. -- Re: Re: donna I plan on purchasing Dragon Speaking when I buy my new computer next week. Guest guest
.. > You asked about pain in other areas, I am not sure as to where your RSD is? The intial injury started out as a left arm sprain caused by a resident grabbing and twisting it during her bath. It was a wrist injury at the time that traveled to my elbow (tennis elbow per their diagnosis) up to my forearm and shoulder, now in my neck and starting to travel across to my other shoulder. About 2 weeks ago I started having problems with my legs aching and both my feet. As well now my hip area and my lower back but my lower back has a very old injury to it so that is probably just an aggrivation. Well, its off to the old grind for another fun filled day lol. Hope everyone has a wonderful Wednesday! Donna
