Guest guest
I hate that little carb counter book...or should I say, Dr Atkins editors suck. None of his books agree on carb counts, with each other or with any other source. DANDR says olives, 10 green = 1g USDA [http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/cgi-bin/nut_search.pl] says: 10 large, ripe = 2.75g My book [Nutribase Guide to Carbohydrates, Calories & Fat - Dr Art Ulene] says: 10 large, green = 0.5g; 10 large, black = 3g What does the container they came in say? Are black olives 'ripe' green olives? Guest guest
I happened to see a " so called " nutritionist on the TODAY show this morning and she mentioned olives are technically a fruit. Hmmm... and all these years I never even thought about how to classify them. Is this a case of like peanuts are technically a legume and not a nut and tomatoes are technically a fruit and not a vegetable? Not that it matters, I just thought it was interesting that she said olives are fruit. -Marlena 214.5/161.8/150 >From: mblack@... >Reply-To: Atkins_Support_List >To: Atkins_Support_List >Subject: olives >Date: Wed, 05 Sep 2001 23:22:30 -0000 > >According to the Atkins carb counter. >Olives - green, large 10 =o.5 gm > ripe, large 10 = 1.2 > oil cured 10 =2.3 > >Could someone please explain the differences. > >Vered, >I like eggplant/aubergine, but if you've bought it already picled, >was there any sugar in the pickling solution. >I'm being very picky now. >Tania > _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp
Guest guest
http://www.wholehealthmd.com/refshelf/foods_view/0,1523,318,00.html This site has lots of info about olives. Apparently the green ones are unripe and the black ones are ripe and there are different carb counts. Kirstie
