Guest guest
Thank you Caro for your response and for the tip, but no, since now, nobody told me to! What about you, did you have them too (the spasms)? What type of EDSER are you? I'm sorry, but I just registered yesterday and I don't know much about all of you. I'm looking forward to share everybody experiences and knowledge, as feel quite lost here! Thanks again! Guest guest
Dear Filaretia, To try and answer your questions - 1.Is there any new meds with less side GI effects? Everyone is going to react differently to the same meds. So what causes GI side effects for you may not for others and vice versa. You don't state what your GI side effects are. With narcotics the most likely side effect would be constipation. This usually will go away after being on the med for a while but you still may get occasional bouts. I've been on the Fentenyal patch for 5 years now and will occasionaly get constipation and if bad enough I use a stool softener, not a laxative, which gets me through. The most common meds that people seem to be on, on this list, are oxycontin, methadone, morphine and fentenyal. 2.Is there any one else experiencing this problems and especially the muscle spasms? This one I can't help with as I only get the " normal " occasional spasms, save for my back. When it spases I either go in my spa or more likely, go lie down till it passes. Having been a weight lifter in the past though it sounds to me like the abdomnial muscles are what's triggering this. Not that it helps you. Have to say you are one of the rare exceptions who has found relief by excercise. I envy you :-) It might be due to your having a problem with range of motion rather then with too much range of motion. Again different things work for different people. Jill has an extensive list of docs recommended by people on this list. Have you asked her if there is one near you? Hugs, B. Guest guest
Hi- I do not get muscle spasms anywhere usuallly but my legs and they are sometimes severe - often lasting 2 weeks- it is indescribably painful as all get go- I finally found a medication that does help to a certain degree and no longer have them for such a great length in time- it is quinine prescribed by dr of course and is 260 mgs- I take one a night. * Admits sometimes pops an extra one when severe* - I did try calcium etc- and it did help for a while but not long enough- I guess I began having an immunity to it- but the quinine is very helpful. Hugs all Around- Sorry not doing much input- gathering information for tomorrow's hearing at 9 AM. Wish me luck !! Custody child support battle. Guest guest
Hi, I get some relief from Back, knee and surgical complications of my right ankle using Lidoderm 5% Patches...unfortunately, you must have a prescription to obtain them and can only use them 12 hours on and 12 hours off. They take the edge off...but anything is better than nothing. Before I found out about the 5% Patches, I used liquid Lidoderm 4% solution and put it in a small spray bottle and sprayed it directly on the area or 2% Fiscus Solution which is thick and will stay put awhile but again they require a prescription. These last two can be sprayed on a gauze patch and taped on to the area.....hey it worked for me.... My Rheumy Doc. prescribed Soma for a muscle relaxer but what is even better is Valium...Yes it is an old " Nerve Pill " ....but today they use it for muscles too.... My Ortho Doc prescribed it for post-op pain for my ankle. Good luck, honey.... Take care,
Guest guest
I hate to make suggestions on medications; but maybe you could call the hospital and get an idea of what you could take. For example, I take 6 tramadol per day. Dr. Wallace's Fibro book says 6-8 per day is what he prescribes. So depending on what you are taking now, you might be able to take more. Since you obviously can't get the lidoderm patches over the weekend, you might try the OTC Salonpas ones. Also, since I take tramadol and naproxen every day; you probably could add some Aleve to the combo. I sure hope that helps you get through the weekend.
