And when it comes to eating, she will chew solid food till the cows come home but wont swallow. they did swallow tests with the results being that she has no problems swallowing. Now she is on a pureed diet and is doing good feeding herself and swallowing (she wasnt before, even with pureed unless I fed her and then gave her a sip of water after every bite). Any ideas about that also? Thanks for the help. Hope I havent asked to much at once.
Guest guest
, Hopefully one of our speech therapists will reply to this. But it sounds as if your mom is not using her tongue properly. Does the food get caught between the teeth and the cheek? Did a therapist watch the test and give her the stuff to eat? They should have tested her with different consistancies of food. Speech therapy can help early swallowing problems greatly. YES! Fainting on standing is a classic Shy-Drager Syndrome symptom. The BP drops (orthostatic hypotension) and causes the patient to faint. Often when the patient lies down the BP shoots up.
