Guest guest
Yes! I also have run a false positive for Hep C.!! I was beginning to think I was the only one. I brought it up once in a group, but no one else answered. So I was afraid to post anywhere else. ... KElley/ Okidoll
Guest guest
I need to ask a question, since my mom still hasn't signed up for Lupies...she has Lupus (SLE) and her liver panel came back all weird (like mine does A LOT). The doctors diagnosed her with having Hepatitis. C and they are going to start her on Imuran (I don't know what the name is but I've seen a lot of people mention it here on the message board). I keep telling her she might not have Hepatitis. C and the only way to actually tell is by doing a biopsy. My liver panels so weird levels too (sometimes for a year at a time). My stomach gets bloated like I'm 8 months pregnant just like hers...but she (or her doctors convinced her) thinks she is in the late stages of liver cancer. She keeps saying how this might be her last Christmas and how she is dying. Hell, I didn't even get ANY support from her when I was diagnosed with advance staged ovarian cancer (according to the scans and blood tests) in Sept. I went to the oncologist on Sept. 11 and in surgery Sept. 13 to have a hysterectomy. She still doesn't think I had cancer. Anyway, do you (or anyone you know) have Lupus and has had a false positive for Hepatitis? Because the Lupus interfers with the liver function causing it to produce false positives for Hepatitis C. Any information would be helpful. Thanks & Blessings,
Guest guest
If you mother lets her doctors treat her for Hep C without doing all the preliminary testing, then she needs to change doctors!! A liver biopsy is the next step after testing positive for Hep C viral loads. An ultrasound of the liver can show if there is any calcification or scar tissue in the liver. If these tests have not been done .. her doctors are doing her a disservice! Imuran is a drug that is kind of hard on the body's systems and if she doesnt need it .. why take it? Tell her .. she needs a second opinion and the proper testing done first!
Guest guest
She said that she isn't going to do the biopsy because the doctor told her that 1 out of 1000 people get an infection (from the biopsy) and die. The doctor suggested not to have the biopsy because of the risk. But can you have a false positive for Hep. C if you have Lupus and it is in a flare at the time of testing? Guest guest
With this group you don't ever have to be concerned with something you want to post. You feel free to ask questions and make comments. You may not get a lot of answers or even any answers about a certain subject. Feel free to ask again or assume no one has that problem too or whatever. I didn't answer about Hep C because I've never had a false positive. My test recently was negative. Guest guest
, I get a false postive for syphilis (VD) when you have lupus.. My sister test postive... She has inactive Lupus.. her blood work is postive but she has never had any of the symptoms. She does have RA in one shoulder. My Dad died of liver failure. I would ask the doctors to go in and biospy the liver. They don't even have to cut you open to do it. The doctors went down Dad's esophagues and went through the stomach and into the liver.... and did a biospy of it that way. I would suggest that she see some one who specialized in liver problems.. I would not go on any medications unless you have too. You and your mom are in my prayers. Love Carol Hepatitis C -False Positive in Lupus Patients?
