Guest guest
Tonya, I agree with you about pretending its not a holiday. I will be with my neighbors and husband and two boys, but I am not going to overdue anything. I have 14 more pounds and I am NOT going to let ANYTHING (not a turkey or a collard green stand in my way of getting it off-I am just grateful that I don't like any of the other stuff) stand in my way of doing what I have to get my surgery. I hope you enjoy your holidays and not worry about anything. Just remember that we control our ultimate destiny by what we chose to do or not do. Its about choices. Happy Holidays and many thanks for listening to me. --- CrazyT wrote: > Maggie, > > I won't say it's the most mature method of dealing > with Thanksgiving and its temptations to overeat, > but > I'm taking the ostrich approach (where I stick my > head > in the sand and pretend there is no holiday). > > I signed up to work that day, and for me it'll be > like > any other day. Guest guest
Here is what I normally do on Thanksgiving and here is what I am going to do since I am pre-op and only have 2.5 to lose before getting a date. Normally, I cook and we have tons of munchies to hold everyone over until dinner is ready. Then we eat dinner, complete with pie for desert. We always have leftovers and they last us a bit because I freeze a lot and take out what we need when we need it. This year, I am cooking as always (I guess my family just likes my cooking!). However, munchies are being brought by my sister and she is always late-so that means no munchies until dinner is pretty much just about done and nobody minds this. We will eat as normal and have pie for desert. As far as leftovers, my sister is going to take some home AND my dad is coming over on Friday (he can't make it on Thursday) to spend the day with us and eat our leftovers. Now my dad is a very large man (could use surgery himself but won't do it) and can pack away a large amount of food. I am going to just let him at it! He can even take some home if he wants. Then the rest will be put in the outside fridge for my husband to get into when he wants. I figure it's my last fat Thanksgiving and I am going to enjoy it but not go overboard as usual...the munchies being late will help a lot! ===== Heidi Lauw
Guest guest
Thanks, Pamela. What you've said is very true. I don't have the compulsion to celebrate my LAST T-Day or Xmas because I know I'll have many more, and I need to figure out how to eat differently during the holidays eventually, so why not just do it now? I've made it abundantly clear to everyone that I need to LOSE weight during the holidays, and that gaining weight is unacceptable. It helps that I have the dietician appt. on Dec. 8. I'm sure Beth will be able to give me some advice on how to handle Xmas with my mom (I already tried to back out politely, but Mom can be quite clever). And having the appt with Dr. Stiles on Jan. 8 shows that I won't have a lot of wiggle room to lose any weight gained over the holidays. I've spent this past weekend taking the orientation binder to those who are very close to me and having them read through it. It's really opened their eyes to the changes I will be forced to make and everyone (except my mom) is supportive of my need to lose weight over the next few months. Guest guest
Thank you, sounds like you're in for a good time. I plan to enjoy my holiday, this is my favorite spiritually, as I love the idea of being thankful for all my many blessings.
