i've been keeping a journal, more like a blog in tone than a diary, but for my eyes only.

but i never, EVER write down what i eat. i KNOW that that will backfire on me, and feel like WW, and i will start judging myself, and that will lead to self-destructive behavior.

but i have found that writing about my emotions is very helpful, surprisingly so. and reading back over them is interesting, too.

so i definitely reccomend it as a way to get to know yourself better, buit not as a mechanism to lose weight per se.... thought it might eventually aid in that process...

I know the IE book says to do it, as in write what you ate and how you felt about it, but you're not supposed to let it affect what you choose to eat. it's just supposed to make you more conscious of your eating and feelings. I personally think (and they also say) that that is awfully hard to avoid self judgment in that kind of journal, especially if you've journaled as part of dieting. but I guess the point is to get over it.

anyway, that wasn't your question, but I don't know the answer to your question :) I don't keep that kind of journal but maybe i should.thea >> Is journaling a common pratice with IE?
