Guest guest
Becky, My GI/hep insists that the gastric bypass did nothing but make things better for me as far as my health goes by allowing me to get rid of the extra 100 lbs. Being overweight is really hard on both the pancreas and the liver. I really believe the pancreatitis is autoimmune because it seems to decrease when they have my immune system sufficiently suppressed to control the autoimmune liver disease. Of course, the cellulitis is complicated because my immune system is suppressed, but they have to keep my immune system suppressed to slow/stop the damage to my liver! As for the islet cell transplant and pancreas removal surgery - I would have to be very near death before I would consider it. There have been several in the group that have ended up worse after the surgery. I am not willing to consider any type of surgery on my pancreas at this point. I am going to have another celiac plexus block next week in hopes that it will take care of some of the pain. They told me it can take 3 or 4 blocks to really get the full effect. I think I may have had a little relief from the first one but it's hard to tell for sure. You probably saw the post I sent earlier saying that Nikki has the flu. She is currently taking bath number 6 since this afternoon! She has always taken tons of baths when she is sick! As for her shoulder, she has 'snapping scapula syndrome' and excercises to strengthen the muscles in the back of the shoulder should help it tremendously. The doc is sending her to physical therapy a couple of times so they can show her the exercises. One thing's for sure - there's never a dull moment in my house! Hope all is well with you. I'm still trying to limit my typing so forgive me for not posting more.
