Guest guest
Hi Cookie! Could you please send me those pics direct? I once ended up in emergency room from a spider bite that got all bubbly and started a red streak up my arm. Also, I still have strong suspicions that a spider or some other bug bite set off my RA. I live in wetlands. Spiders galore, some real nasty and big ones. (Ticks too, lots of deer). I have read about the Brown Recluse years ago in Readers Digest. A bite can kill you from respiratory arrest. I also learned that they are working their way up to the Northeast where I live, whereas previously they were basically down south. Ick. Guest guest
Babs, An easy way to educate yourself on brown recluse spiders is to go to www.google.com and do a search on the term: brown recluse spider In particular, click on: http://ohioline.osu.edu/hyg-fact/2000/2061.html http://www.uky.edu/Agriculture/Entomology/entfacts/struct/ef631.htm Regards, Harald At 12:45 AM 7/29/2005 -0400, you wrote: >Hi Cookie! > >Could you please send me those pics direct? Guest guest
Brown recluse bites are nothing to fool around with, so watch it very closely. Hopefully Bee has some good advice. Also, hopefully the doctor was mistaken and it's a less harmless bite from another critter. Doug
Guest guest
A friend of mine just had that happen about a month ago. She got activated charcoal powder and put it on the bite several times a day. It never did get really bad and in two weeks the bite was almost gone. You probably want to start this fast, though; you might have to call around to see who in your area sells activated charcoal. I think it is often sold in capsules which you'd break open to apply. Guest guest
Does she apply heat with the castor oil? I am a little afraid to use heat because that might increase the inflammation. Guest guest
Irene, I'm not sure you'd care to see pictures of what a brown recluse bite looks like, but a friend sent me pictures that I can email you. It just may sicken you though, as it is very grotesque. I would gather all the advice here and fight it with tooth and nail. I'm now more terrified of spiders than ever after seeing these pictures. I hope it isn't a spider bite and will clear soon. Guest guest
No. All the instructions I've seen for handling brown recluse bites say NOT to apply heat. It would only make it worse. Guest guest
Brown recluse spider bites are serious. When my brother got bit by a spider I put a paste of dry mustard on the bites. We left it on for 10 minutes and washed it off. We waited 30 minutes and put another dab on the bite for 10 minutes. That washed off we put on oil of oregano and a bandage. The next day where the bandage stayed on, was not swollen. Where it came off, it was a bit swollen. Guest guest
I am using mustard and that seems to be helping quite a bit. I just put on regular mustard, wait until it dries and then wash off. I will try the oil of oregano tonight. Thanks, Irene At 07:25 PM 6/12/2008, you wrote: >Brown recluse spider bites are serious. Guest guest
Thanks, that is what I would have thought. The only way I know of using castor oil is with heat. I don't know if it works without it. Still looking for my stash of activated charcoal. Might have to buy some tomorrow. The vitamin C and mustard packs will help for sure! I recommend mixing hydrogen peroxide 50/50 with clean water, put it on gauze and tape it on the area. Replenish the h202 mixture on the gauze every 3-4 hours. The gauze can be changed once a day. Also if the bite is in an area you can soak, soak it 3 times a day in the same mixture. Also take H202 baths: Use 2 cups of 3% H202 in a full bath. I hope that helps. Bee
Guest guest
Ok. Are you recommending 3% H2O2 with water on the gauze? I will give that a try. Maybe I will alternate that with the mustard packs. the mustard is definitely helping. The bite is on my thigh so I can't really soak it without getting in the tub. Guest guest
I would recommend a product called cell food. Buy the gel, not liquid. Apply liberally. I had a br bite once and it took 6 months to heal the small wound. Later I had a bite on my face...don't know what kind of spider but it was a big hole type. I used the gel and a bunch of stuff which I think was poison came out of the hole and it healed up without scarring within a few days. Just my experience. Yes, you can use 3% regular drug-store type hydrogen peroxide. I hope it clears up okay for you. I think you'll do fine since you are treating it the way you should.
