Guest guest
hi, i had surgery sept 22 nd and i'm only down 11 lbs - i get a smoothie from smoothie king called the gladiator and it has 50 grams of protein so i cover my whole day just with that and if i get extra in food -great - if not i'm OK --- i'm having more trouble with the water - i hate water but i know i need it -- i barely eat and this early on i don't get that full feeling - i'm doing good with baked potatoes but this morning i tried a scrambled egg and had the worst chest pain as it went down so i only ate half and i had a yogurt and just water - i'll probably have cream soup or baked potatoe for lunch and same for dinner. visit our website www.geocities.com/tanyarn96/countryside.html www.poncetihomes.com -- Questions I had RYN on the 24th of Sept. I lost 21lbs while in the first two weeks and then when i started foods it slowed down. I am having trouble getting all the foods down, I am just not hungry.. Is that normal? Then i feel like i'm eating all day long to get 60-80gm of protein.. How much protein is everyone on? al_sweetiepie

Guest guest
Hi Kris, I havent had the wls yet but i did have my gallbladder out last july and had it done lap, out patient so i was only in the hospital for 23hrs(surgury 6am-released 4am) I have 3 small scares. 2 very small scares on my right side (that is not noticable) and one on top of my stomach that is about an inch long. You can still see that one a little.I was up and about doing my normal things with in a couple of days, not much pain. You should not have a longer stay b/c of having your gall bladder removed during wls...(I dont know, maybe someone else can answer that) I hope I helped a little.... Good luck

Guest guest
I am taking threeXday Tums (Sugar Free) and two Kids Chewable Vitamins. Those are the only things they told me to take.. Is there something else i should be taking that would help with this process? > > I had RYN on the 24th of Sept. I have a small scar across my belly button too, but it is less noticable. As for the gall bladder removal, I don't think it will get you extra time off work if it is done lap as well. 6 weeks I think is the max, unless you have complications. I don't think there is an extra scar for GB removal. I didn't have mine removed, my DR said it was OK. Guest guest
Patti, I believe what you're saying..that's why I have on the diet. I did get her blood results back and there is no toxicity. Hopefully, it is yeast that's causing the problems. I ordered tests from great plains and great smokies to test for yeast and bacteria. was on nyastatin before SCD and I just put her back on it yesterday. Thanks for your response.. I really appreciate the information. Debbie > Debbie, > <<A lot of people say that yeast becomes worse > on SCD...>> > I'm concerned about this information you've been given. Where are you hearing this? Another autism group? Another list? From parents who actually do have their kids on SCD? Hopefully, I can reassure you. > > We have a pretty big group here..... and I don't think the general consensus, based on the combined experience of hundreds of families here at pecanbread, is that " yeast gets worse " on SCD. Many kids have had yeast issues prior to starting SCD.... for which they've been on various treatments. Some families choose to limit (not eliminate!) fruit and honey in the very beginning, until they get well established on the diet and yeast comes under better control. Some parents come to SCD with a lot of " fears " about using fruit and honey..... having been on other yeast diets, etc.... where they would not have been allowed to use these foods. It's hard to let go and switch gears...... accept new ideas. > > Some have been using prescription anti-fungals that can have a tendancy to have yeast bounce back strong once the rx is discontinued..... and have better luck with natural anti-fungals in conjunction with SCD. I don't think that's really the case. > > Of course, each kid is different.... but remember that yeast and bacteria give off the same toxins when they're dying off.... only probably MORE of the same, in a shorter period of time. Guest guest
Debbie, Are you giving her probiotics? Important to get those in there to repopulate the gut. Some are now telling me that indeed yeast can creep in there and " take up the slack " temporarily, in the very beginning....after bacteria die-off..... unless we get the good bacterial flora in there to crowd them out. I'm discussing this with a couple of people..... and will update you on the outcome. Patti Re: questions Patti, I believe what you're saying..that's why I have on the diet. Guest guest
Hi Debbie, > Thanks again. Does this mean we're to give 3 billion a day? That > would be less than 1/3 of that tiny scoop. Yes, no more than 3 billion per day in a probiotic (this does not refer to yogurt). > What are the natural antifungals? My DAN! Doc wants to stay on nyastatin as it is topical and isn't absorbed. I'm wondering about this. Natural antifungals include: " homemade carrot juice and garlic, grapefruit seed extract (GSE) with or without enzymes oil of oregano.... as long as it's just the pure oil " Sheila
Guest guest
#1 – Does anyone worry about the health consequences of being overweight and the health benefits of maintaining a healthy body weight? I’m all for self-acceptance, but I worry about health, too. Any thoughts? #2 – Any Christians on this list that struggle to put God into the equation? I know this is OT – so if you are a Christian and want to email me directly with your feelings on this subject, that is fine. Just interested in a Christian background/slant to the whole body, IE, health equation.... #3 – Does anyone sometimes feel like IE is basically just a “fat acceptance” club? How (in your opinions) does loving yourself, accepting yourself as you are, etc. differ from fat acceptance? I’m burned out from years of dieting – and am questioning if IE is my “true path” to a healthy self mind/body/spirit....but I am not content being overweight and do not want to embrace that.....because of the health factor. It is SO not about being a size 0, or looking good in a bikini, or pleasing a man or pleasing anyone. I just know (since I am in the health profession) what obesity does to a body....and am just wondering how IE differs. I might be stirring up trouble with any/all of these questions...I have an open mind....and I am seeking. I am not trying to offend or disrespect anyone. I am asking these questions straightforward with a childlike curiousity – I am new to IE and I am learning. Thanks! Guest guest
Jolene, I actually find this post refleshingly raw and honest. I'm willing to bet that anyone who ever contemplated IE has thought these thoughts. I know I have. There's definitely a part of me that felt sad at giving dieting up. There were always times on a diet when I felt very in control, that I could change my body that way. Giving up on dieting felt like just giving up period in ways. But then I remembered why I turned to IE in the first place. Dieting is a constant struggle and battle with food and hunger and cravings. There's no peace in dieting. The vast majority of dieters are yo-yo dieters. Only a tiny fraction of dieters have any real " success " keeping their weight off, and that is with " success " defined loosely. Even those " successful " few are usually in the process of gaining back at least some of weight they lost. So the " unsuccessful " dieters, those 95-99% of dieters who gain their weight back, gain and lose, gain and lose, gain and lose. I'm betting most of us have probably been there. There is plenty of research that shows that this sort of up and down weight fluctuation is very detrimental to your health. Dieting sounds great in theory, but in practice, it's much more likely to make you less healthy, not more healthy. Plus, there really isn't good evidence that maintaining weight loss over the long haul improves your health. This is mainly because it's hard to find people who have actually achieved this in order to study them. I used to worry about my health and weight. Reading The Diet Myth by Campos put a lot of those worries to rest for me. I would definitely recommend that book to you. Also, go to this web address. http://www.wellness-rd.com/Research.htm It has abstracts of studies related to IE. Look particularly at " Size Acceptance and Intuitive Eating Improve Health for Obese, Female Chronic Dieters. " I think that title sums it all up right there! For me, focusing on accepting and loving myself right now is imperative to eating intuitively. And even if it wasn't, I feel that's what we all deserve to do, anyway. IE is a path. On my long IE path I've taken many turns. For a long time, I focused on weight loss, turned IE into a diet, lost a few pounds, then gained them all back with a few more to go along with them without really changing my behavior. That's when I was truly able to give up on dieting. Your path has taken you to these questions in your mind. They're all good questions, and no direction you turn will be the wrong direction. It'll just be your direction. As for Christianity and IE, I think there's an IE book out there that focuses on that. I think it's called " Thin Within " but maybe someone else will know for sure. I'm not a religious person, but I'm definitely a spiritual person, and God has helped me out so much on my IE journey. Just when I need some help with something, he sends it my way. It's been quite amazing. And I definitely thank God for this group!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good Luck! Guest guest
Jolene, #1. After much reading and research, I no longer buy into the 'fat kills' hoopla. I suggest reading Health At Every Size, junkfoodscience.blogspot.com and http://kateharding.net/faq/but-dont-you-realize-fat-is-unhealthy/ on that topic. One can be fat and quite healthy, and that is my goal, as I do not think I will ever be not-fat. #2. I am a Christian and what this has meant to me in my intuitive eating journey is that my body really IS wonderfully and miraculously made and I can trust it to do what God programmed it to do. Additionally, He is there for support when no one else is. I do NOT buy into the 'your body is the temple and it must be thin' mentality that I hear so much of from some Christians. #3. Hate to scare you, but IE was the beginning of my path to fat acceptance. Which I think is wonderful. We are not all meant to be thin, and being fat doesn't have to be either unhealthy or wrong in any other way. I would suggest you delve a little deeper into what you hear as health professional, because the research just does not support the conclusion that a person must be in a certain BMI range to be healthy. Welcome to the journey. But...your worldview will be challenged, lol. ~ www.jenny-fair.blogspot.com
Guest guest
, I'm so with you and the weight and health issue!!! There are some large research studies showing that people who are moderately over the recommended BMI levels live the longest, and that people who are even a tiny bit under the BMI recommendations live the shortest. All the evidence just turns everything I ever thought I knew about weight and dieting on its head. Sara
