Guest guest
Does that sum up my appointment?!?!?!?!?! Well let's see - I saw the Physicians Assistant (PA) and explained that I wanted a script for Thyrolar 1s as I have 7 days worth of meds and I don't know how long it will take for Medco to get the 3s. WELL she thinks I am overmedicated going solely by my TSH and I could end up in a thyroid storm and I need to call her if I get a fever or some other things that I don't remember. Well the endo said if I feel fine at this dose that's fine just as long as I keep in mind I might get osteoperosis and heart disease etc. The PA agreed and said the calcium is being leeched from my bones. So as a comprimise and I take 1 1/2 6 days a week and 1 1 day a week. BUT guys and gals it gets better. She wanted to run a blood test right than and have me come back in 6 weeks for another. (She also asked if I had a scan if my thyroid (no) and felt it.) Well PA I wasn't planning on a blood test so I haven't been drinking water and I've been running around all morning. Oh no problem. Fine so they take me in the room where they do a blood test and this other woman is there. Well now I find out she wants to test my iron because my % saturation is elevated. I'm like - but the endo doesn't think I have hemochromatosis because usually your iron is the 1000s and mine isn't. Oh she's aware of that but she still wants to test it. So from the sounds of it they were just going to test iron and % saturation. I'm like well shouldn't you test ferritin as well as that is the storage part of it? Well than the other lady said oh and a THYROID PANEL!!!!! as they are going over everything (plus a CBC.) I'm like well what about the FT3 and FT4. Oh the PA didn't want to test those. Well it doesn't matter I want them tested. So they had to add them. WELL now comes the really good part!!!! After the car accident my veins have become weird so they check one arm and nope let's try the other. They finally find the vein and the PA inserts the needle and the vein collapses!!!!!! So than they tried to get blood from my hand. Remember I've told them that I haven't been drinking water - must have gone in one ear and out the other. Well she finds the vein easily in my hand and the blood is coming out. Well halfway through the 1st tube IT STOPS!!! Not enough blood!!!!!!! So they want me to come back Tues but I am seriously thinking of going to my Dr who left and started her own practice. She has even noted on my results that it's ok as long as I don't have symptoms. And she doesn't sit there and add a whole bunch of tests that I know nothing about. I'll think about it this weekend. Well that was my day. Phooey - and I'm like as much as we dislike endos - they do know more than a PA. And it's an odd situation - my ferritin is around 30 and my % saturation is elevated (like 40%.) The PA did say that maybe my thyroid meds are affecting my iron levels. Don't know. Louise PS I had brought copies of stuff from the neuro's office and I guess they no longer keep paper copies - they scan them in a computer. Weird. This office used to have 3 Drs and 2 PAs. Well one Dr went to California, the other started her own practice (she's the one I like and she's a DO) and took one of the PA's and now they have one MD and 2 PAs. It's just that my Drs office isn't that close. But, who knows, I might have to go to her.
