Hi there Anne. Anne, just to give you something to lean on, there are LOTS of us here who used to be on Synthroid, and are now on Armour alone, and the differences are nothing less than stunning!! You may not notice that difference on 1/2 grain of Armour though...and...you don't want to necessarily stay on such a small does that long. If you feel brave, many of us took our final dose of Synthroid/Levoxyl/T4 one day, and started on Armour the next at a starting dose. Then within 2-3 weeks, we raised....and then raised....and then raised. At 2-3 grains or so, you hold the Armour for at least 4 weeks to allow the T4 to build up and the conversion to T3 to show it's results. For comparison sakes, I was on .125 Synthroid, and am now on an optimal dose of 3 1/4 grains. You will probably be there and higher once you find your optimal dose. Also, be SURE and get your Ferritin tested. If it's less than 50, you will need to optimize it. Janie
Guest guest
I was just trying to do it gradually and I'm hesitant to go from .175 of synthroid one day to a starting dose (1/2 grain?) of armour the next day. How does that make you feel? Wouldn't that make symptoms come back for a few weeks before you adjusted your dose again? I was just going to start with .125 synthroid + 1/2 grain armour for 2-3 weeks and then go to .075 synthroid and 1 grain armour for 2-3 weeks, etc. - until I'm down to no synthroid and all armour. Does that sound like it would work? > > >I'm on .175 mg of synthroid now so I'm going to try my old Rx > >of .125 of synthroid in the morning and 1/2 gram of armour at night > >for a couple of weeks and see how I feel. > > Hi there Anne. Actually, some folks who switch to a starting dose of Armour notice an effect fairly immediately. But when you do start on a starting dose, you simply raise it after a week or two. That's how you prevent symptoms from returning--by raising it soon. For example, you could start on 1/2 grain, and after one week, go ahead and jump to one grain. After a few weeks, go up to 1 1/2, the after a few weeks...2 grains. Between 2-3 grains, you can start holding the doses a bit longer to allow the buildup of the T4 to show it's effect. It is also perfectly OK to hang onto the Synthroid as you introduce Armour! ) But it isn't necessary. And, since you intend on becoming all Armour, starting on all Armour gives you a true picture from the beginning on... But...do what you feel comfortable with!! And make sure that Ferritin is optimized. I haven't checked your earlier responses to see if you have commented on that--forgive me. ) Janie > > I was just going to start with .125 synthroid + 1/2 grain armour for > > 2-3 weeks and then go to .075 synthroid and 1 grain armour for 2- 3 > > weeks, etc. - until I'm down to no synthroid and all armour.
