#1 Motts applesause

Is this legal?

--> No. Please make all foods yourself. There are three recipes

for applesauce on pecanbread.com. Please see

pecanbread.com Food Preparation page for an explanation of

why food needs to be made from scratch.

http://www.pecanbread.com/foodprep.html

#2 Is there just as many " good bugs " in cows milk compared to

goats milk when making yoghurt?

--> The good bacteria that ferments yogurt does not come from

the milk itself. It comes from the yogurt starter that is used to

make the milk. Cow's milk yogurt is fine to use for those who

know they have no problems with cow's milk products. Many

ASD kids have a history of cow's milk problems. For those kids

we recommend goat's milk yogurt or if there is a problem with all

forms of dairy, then there is the nut milk yogurt.

#3 Do we need to soak all vegtables 10 hours

--> Vegetables do not need soaked. Beans get soaked before

using. But remember that beans are not used early in the SCD.

Beans (kidney, black, etc) are not generally used until about 6

months into the diet, once GI issues have cleared up.

Welcome to the list.

Welcome to Pecanbread and SCD

Motts applesauce?

Sorry, no canned or bottled applesauce is legal. Page 76 of BTVC

explains about commercial juices and this would apply to apple sauce

as well as there can be up to 2% of illegal starch or sugars in it

that do not have to be disclosed on the label under government

labeling laws.

Also when something contains " natural flavors " it isn't clear what is

meant and there may be harmful ones in the product.

Please check out the Pecanbread web site and the Food Preparation

link which explains in detail about homemade versus store bought.

There are tinned fruits allowed that are packed in their own juice:

some Dole pineapple products are an example. Those with pear or white

grape juice added would not be " legal " for SCD. Those in their own

juice are fine.

Please read about the " Intro Diet " on page 69 of BTVC for the best

head start.

We wish you all the best on SCD.

Welcome to the list ryanbrake,

No. All canned fruits are illegal except those canned in their own

juice (ie. pineapples in pineapple juice, no other ingredients).

Please see http://www.pecanbread.com/foodprep.html#homemade

Yes. Both goat's milk and cow's milk yogurt need to be fermented for

24 hours. For all the details please see

http://www.pecanbread.com/goatyogurt.html#make and

http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/beginners_guide/yoghurt/yog_pi

The only vegetables that need to be soaked are beans or lentils.

However beans or lentils shouldn't be introduced until much further

on in the diet.

Vegetables should be peeled & cooked when beginning the diet. We

also recommend that the intro diet as outlined in BTVC (also at:

http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/beginners_guide/the_intro_diet

2.htm and for ASD kids:

http://www.pecanbread.com/foodprep.html#intro ) be used for 2-5 days.

4-5 days for those with svere diarrhea, 2-3 days for all others. The

intro diet will help flush out harmful bacteria faster while

continuing to feed great food to the body.
