Guest guest
Hi Vered, Here are the formulas for figuring out the cholesterol numbers... These are the formulas and the desired results 1. Total cholesterol divided by HDL= less than 4 2. LDL divided by HDL= less than 3.22 3. Triglycerides divided by HDL = less than 2 I hope this helps. --- " Vered Mourad, DVM " wrote: > I had blood tests done the day I started Atkins (early morning, before > eating), and a few days ago, about 1.5 months after. > I've had some changes in my cholesterol levels. > > Here are the results: > > Total Cholesterol: > Then: 170 Now: 238 (mg/dl) > > Triglycerides: > Then: 61 Now: 72.6 (mg/dl) > > HDL Cholesterol ('Good' cholesterol) > Then: 54 Now: 65 (mg/dl) > > The results now say something about Acceptable being over 35, and > negative risk factor (for HDL I guess) being over 60 - so I'm good > there. > > LDL Cholesterol ('bad' cholesterol) > Then: 103 Now: 158.48 (mg/dl) > > Risk Factor (not sure exactly what this means but it sounds good - I > think it has to do with the ratios of the different types of cholesterol > ?) > Then: 3.15 Now: 3.66 (the normal range for this is 3.00 - 7.00 so in > both cases I'm ok) > > > My cholesterol levels have gone from normal to borderline - but my good > cholesterol has also gone up. Guest guest
I had blood tests done the day I started Atkins (early morning, before eating), and a few days ago, about 1.5 months after. I've had some changes in my cholesterol levels. Here are the results: Total Cholesterol: Then: 170 Now: 238 (mg/dl) Triglycerides: Then: 61 Now: 72.6 (mg/dl) HDL Cholesterol ('Good' cholesterol) Then: 54 Now: 65 (mg/dl) The results now say something about Acceptable being over 35, and negative risk factor (for HDL I guess) being over 60 - so I'm good there. LDL Cholesterol ('bad' cholesterol) Then: 103 Now: 158.48 (mg/dl) Risk Factor (not sure exactly what this means but it sounds good - I think it has to do with the ratios of the different types of cholesterol ?) Then: 3.15 Now: 3.66 (the normal range for this is 3.00 - 7.00 so in both cases I'm ok) My cholesterol levels have gone from normal to borderline - but my good cholesterol has also gone up. I'm not too worried, I'll test again in a few months time, I know it can take some time to get down to a normal level again. Besides, that risk factor looks good - does anyone know exactly what it is ? I've never had a problem with cholesterol so never bothered to figure these things out. Total cholesterol divided by HDL= less than 4 Then: 170/54 = 3.1 Now: 238/65 = 3.66 HEY! This is that mysterious 'risk factor' thing in the blood results! They say the normal range is 3-7, but in any case I'm below the 4 that you mentioned. > > 2. LDL divided by HDL= less than 3.22 Then: 103/54 = 1.9 Now: 158.48/65 = 2.4 > > 3. Thanks a lot, Kathy ) Vered <who wasn't worried before but is very happy now>
