So for those of you supplementing...To: IntuitiveEating_Support Date: Tuesday, December 22, 2009, 7:52 PM ....is this just OTC Vitamin D? Or something you had to get by prescription? I can wait until I see my endo, obviously, but I'm wondering. Thanks.> > >> > > Hi everyone,> > > I was just wondering if any of you caught the Dr. Oz episode today? Guest guest
you can definitely get 1000 OTC.i am surprised your doctor didnt already prescribe you something! it's not a big deal to take it, and it will help you so much.i should NOT be giving you medical advice... but if it were me, i'd by the biggest OTC dose i could buy and take a few a day, like 5000. i think it's quite safe. they even put it in milk, for goodness sake. ....is this just OTC Vitamin D? Guest guest
Oh, absolutely I would agree that living in Maine could leave you with fewer resources to receive/convert Vitamin D and that it's seasonal. I used to live in northern New Jersey and there was a good deal of SAD going on in the area each and every year and I wonder about the correlation. I currently live in Southern California and have for the past five years, and so it's a true puzzle to me how I could possibly be Vitamin D deficient, but someone pointed out to me recently that I almost always have sunscreen on. Isn't it ironic that in trying to protect us from one illness, we may be developing another? I'm glad your fibro pain is less. Hugs and hang in there. Guest guest
OMG. Brilliant. I must go sell that idea to Hawaiian Tropic. Seriously, holy cow, what a really great idea. > > I have wonder why they don't add vitamin D to sun screen, can't be absorbed > via the skin? > > - that just seems way to logical. Guest guest
I've read that Vit. D has cancer preventing abilities and seeing how that vitamin needs sunlight exposure to 'activate' (utilize?) it, using sunscreen, which is a sunlight barrier, might be more a cause for skin cancers than preventative? We humans evolved in direct sunlight so why is it now 'bad' for us? (other than excessive = skin like leather) Taking orally is a better way to be assured of dosage, absorbtion by skin would be more variable.
