Guest guest
I resisted getting better fitting clothes when I started IE. It seems I was stuck in the I'm-going-to-fit-into-what-I-have-NOW mentality. Plus I felt that I liked the clothes I had (then) and didn't want to go to the expense and effort of getting what I hoped would be a 'temporary' wardrobe. After several bouts with tight clothes and diet mentality reactions to that, I decided to start back to sewing what I knew would really fit me better than what I had been buying 'cheap'. The results was excellent - I not only felt comfortable in what I was wearing, but I also had much better selection of colors and fabrics ( I prefer cottons and other naturals) than I had before. After a while I noticed that I wasn't wearing any my previous wardrobe, not just because they didn't fit like I HOPED they would, but rather because the newer clothes plain looked and felt better too. I would say that if one can afford a couple of inexpensive, but comfortable and flattering tops and pants, ideally that mix and match, then you may find that you can overcome the 'bad' feeling and focus more on IE practices than getting snagged by diet mentality? Best wishes, Katcha IEing since March 2007 > > Hi Diane, > > I can so relate to that feeling of clothes not fitting and being so focused on that and desperate to lose weight. I often resist buying new clothes because I don't want to spend the money but I know it does help me when I have clothes that fit.
Guest guest
Yes Sharon, I do sew blouses and pants too. I 'copied' the blouse pattern from a blouse that I had which fit me nicely. I didn't take it apart but simply traced the parts and then added seam allowance width. Same with the pants except I modified the 'seat' area as I have a 'larger following' than most off the rack pants are cut for. The first blouse and pants I made were with the cheapest material I could find ($1/yard at Wal*Mart) and I ended up wearing these only around the house now. But I found out where I needed to adjust some in my pattern before I started making more. If you have an old blouse or pants that are worn out, cutting right on the seams would be a excellent way to copy the pattern!! Failing that, check out thrift stores as I've found older patterns there for under $1 each. Plus if you buy very large sizes, you can use those patterns to trace with for your own. Katcha > > Katcha, > > Did you sew both pants and shirts? I have considered trying to sew but it's not something I've pursued. Sometimes I find clothes which I just LOVE the way that they fit and make me feel and I want more of them. I've considered taking them apart and using them as a pattern and then sewing new ones in different colors. > > I agree that having clothes that fit and feel good does help us to not get stuck in the diet mentality. Good idea on just buying a few things. > > Sharon
