Hi Naomi,

The vascular surgeon who does my Photoderm treatments once told me that the

visible veins of cea are much, much more easily treated (by Photoderm)

than are the faces that have the overall flushing. It makes sense, since

the target is so much more visible.

Dear Group,

Does anyone know the parameters for photoderm to cure rosacea. Any help would be

greatly appreciated.

Thank you, Mstislav

I hope you were not mislead. Photoderm does not cure rosaeca. I hope no

one got false hope from what you posted.

Hi, Naomi -

Sorry I haven't answered earlier, but this week was very busy! I had the

PhotoFacial treatment on Wednesday afternoon. They did my whole face, my

neck and my chest. It felt like rubber bands snapping my skin, but I had

applied some slightly numbing cream earlier to help with this. I do not know

what settings they used, but know they started very conservatively since I am

so very sensitive (aren't we all?!)

Afterward, I was somewhat swollen on my cheeks and a little redder than

ususal; but no red lines or anything like some people have had. I used emu

oil and a heavy moisturizer I like, and took an antihistimine and an aspirin

before going to bed. The swelling was gone by the next day. The redness was

gone by the 2nd day following the procedure. My neck looks great - responded

very quickly! I can't see a really big difference in my face, but was told

it would take 2 or 3 visits before it became apparent. The doctors thought I

was a good candidate and would have good results because I am so fair. The

PhotoFacial laser isolates and goes after dark colored things in the skin (my

broken capillaries and vessels!) and zaps them. These Dr's were trained in

California by Dr. Bitter.

I was shown a 20 minute video of Dr. Bitter and some of his rosacea patients

-- before & after. It was very interesting. The thing of it is, they claim

that I will just not have the same problems with erythema and rosacea

symptoms after all the treatments - and if I take care of problems (broken

vessels, etc, when they arise, should never again have to worry about it! I

was told that using this in conjunction with the microdermabrasion or " power

peels " the results were even better.

Bottom line: It is supposed to be very effective in reducing the degree of

flushing and erythema in patients they have treated. I was told that

afterwards that I will probably be able to decrease or discontinue

treatements for rosacea. The results are said to be long-lasting.

I have a hard time believing this, though, and am approaching the whole thing

cautiously! It would just be so wonderful if it is all true! In the video I

saw, the people certainly looked wonderful and were very, very satisfied with

their treatments. I hope to be one of them?!

I will try to find out more about settings, etc., next time. I was nervous

the first time, I really wasn't paying very close attention to things! I was

told they would probably " up " the settings on the machine next time. I go in

on the 10th of April. I plan to maybe have a microdermabrasion session

in-between if a friend of mine (who is trained to do this) can fit me in.

She says she can do it ever so lightly at first and keep in step with the

Photofacial treatments. I'm still thinking about that one! But, since the

Dr's answered favorably about it when I asked, I may just do it!

Sorry so long and rambling, but wanted to let everybody know what went on.

will check in again after the next treatment!

Well cure is probably a bit too hopeful. This is one of the things making

photoderm hard to be a panacea - the need for highly skilled operators who

know how to target the machines parameters to your skin type, vascular

distress etc etc etc. Unfortunately one person's ideal settings are not

really related to anothers.
