Guest guest
I agree, it's too much! Even magazines like People feature stories about weight loss. Argh! I like Yoga Journal and Runners' World, because they motivate me to be active, for the sake of enjoying it and being healthy rather than for the purpose of losing weight. I would suggest finding magazines specific to things you enjoy, rather than the weight-loss-disguised-as-wellbeing magazines. Dawn
Guest guest
Every new year there seems to be a media onslaught of weight loss ads. This year I decided to mentally prepare myself because it can be really tempting, especially after some holiday overindulgence. Thanks, Dawn, for the suggestion of magazines. My favorite was Walking magazine; unfortunately, it ceased in 2001. I always thought Runner's World was all about running but heard it does have some good articles on walking. Take care, Jeanne
Guest guest
I gave up reading those types of magazines because they drive the diet mentality and make us believe that we can never be good enough. One website that I have been really enjoying is fatgirlsguidetoliving.com because it's about living life as we are today, not when we are skinnier. Alana > > > I was wondering if anyone on here has any favorite websites/magazines which focus on improving general health and wellbeing. I used to read magazines like Shape for their articles about reducing stress, improving nutrition, exercises, recipes and the like but they emphasize dieting and the wonders of weight loss so emphatically that I can't read them anymore. > Cheers! > ~ >

Me too, because the pictures of skinny and toned people are triggering my BBT, regardless if the focus is on health or on weight loss. A skinny and sinewy picture of a person in a yoga journal is making me feel as bad about myself as the picture of the same person in a weight loss journal. Regards s. Guest guest
I have lost most of my flexibility because of some disabilities. For a while, looking at yoga pictures drove me nuts because I couldn't get into those positions anymore. And then I looked at it like this - trying to emotionally feel how I felt when I could get into those positions. And then doing those to the best of my now limited ability on the days when I can, focusing on recapturing the feeling not the look. That helped me a lot. I did that with some of the thin people in exercise/health/diet mags too - how I feel in my skin and not so much the look. How I felt when I was really super thin was, in part, energetic and in part liked how clothes felt and hung. So I started to focus on still feeling energetic and getting some new clothes, even a couple of pieces, that I liked how they felt and hung. And I made sure to wear those if I was checking out a magazine and that my energy levels were high. Might be weird, but it helped me. As my vision declined, now I can't really tell what these people look like anymore! I know, from past experience of course, and when I blow up the text on the box, I can mostly just scroll past the images quickly if I want to. But sometimes, stuff still makes it in, and I try to use the same techniques. - Georgiaajslinton <ajslintoncomcast (DOT) net> wrote: > I gave up reading those types of magazines because they drive the diet > mentality and make us believe that we can never be good enough.
