Welcome and hope this round of non-dieting helps you more than the first

attempt. It really helps to read any or more of the non-dieting books (Book List

in Files here) because they not only lay out the suggestions better, they help

answer some questions better than I or others here can briefly explain for you.

Non-dieting is not a 'quick' weight loss method. And usually those who

experience that have turned the guidelines into a diet! Hard and fast rules with

specific do's and don'ts are the hallmark of dieting and what many find

comforting because then they can apply 'good/bad' labels to everything too. But

as anyone who had dieted can attest to - this only lasts soooo long before

rebellion sets in and that is where IE is different - it understands and works

with that rebellion to help you within yourself.

While I haven't dieted as much or as 'strongly' as many members here have, one

statement I have heard - often! - from the older members (I'm 59) is that they

all wish they had found and incorporated this in their lives YEARS before.

Congrats on your starting much sooner than I did.

BEST to you, Katcha

IEing since March 2007

> Hello everyone and happy holidays. This is my second attempt at IE, the last

time I still had the diet mentality. I'm about to turn 30 and every new year I

make a resolution to lose weight and try a new diet and of course fail at it. I

am categorized as the " professional dieter " in the book. I even went to a

nutritionist to lose weight and she told me to eat 2000 calories a day (I'm

5'11 " female) and I about had a cow and of course ate 1200. It feels weird

honoring my hunger, but I was determined this year to try something I haven't

before and that is NON-DIETING. I guess my question is how long will it take to

notice a loss? I am trying to stay off the scale and maybe weigh in once a

month, but I've gained 3 pounds. I'm trying not to freak out. I would like to

lose 40-50 more pounds (I lost 40 this year already following a strict diet, but

a diet is not a way of life and I want to live).

Hi,

Glad you've found the IE group! I was also the professional dieter back in those days of calorie counting. So I understand where you're coming from. It's a wonderful thing that you've begun to question diets and see that they haven't really come through for you (or any of us) We don't fail diets, they fail us; they stink!! (my opinion)

I believe that the more and more a person begins to trust the IE process, practice it, and build up experiences of success with it, the more the person's weight will return to whatever it's meant to be. Which I suppose is dependent upon genetics as well as lifestyle. I believe this approach can bring each and every one of us to a place where we are satisfied with our size; but what's even better is the freedom around food and the much healthier relationship with food. Weight loss, which was a main goal of dieting, becomes a side effect rather than a primary pursuit for many people following the IE path.

I can't say how long it will take because everyone is unique and it's really the process that's as rewarding as the end results anyway.

Glad you've found the support here; I think it's terrific.
