Guest guest
Hi mj, I don't really mind the name mix-up, in the non-cyber world I usually get call Ernie or Barney, so I'm used to it. I just didn't want the people in a predominantly women's group to be thinking they were talking to a woman when really it's a guy. For sure I'll post my thoughts on the workshop next week. Isn't it amazing how millions of people can try every diet under the sun and never have long term success, yet we blame ourselves rather than the diets. Just goes to show... Can 95% of dieters be wrong? Yes, we can! What a revelation; diets don't work. There is a certain mass insanity to this. If there was even one diet that actually worked all the rest would be out of business, so the very existence of the diet industry is proof enough for me it doesn't work. Arnie > > > i'm sorry arnie for getting your name wrong. is my face red or what? anyways, please let me know how you liked the workshop once you've done it. i was surprised when i found out they were actually running it out in the burbs. i'm in maple ridge & things hardly ever get that close to me. LOL i think the best thing i got out of the IE workshop was that DIETS DONT WORK!!!! well i've known it in my head for years after trying so many different ones & never managing to stick with any of them over time. i really GOT IT THIS TIME. though. > i think i really need the emotional eating & mindful eating ones too, looking forward to taking those next time they are running them. > > mj > > > >
Guest guest
i did watch parts of biggest loser update last night & it seems to me that being on tv when losing a great deal of weight must put some people in that 5% of success category. they had updates on 40 (i think) past contestants & with the exception of one, these people were continuing to keep their weight off. i think it has a lot to do with the fact that many of them have become trainers (personal or group). back in the early 80s i lost 60 lbs on a low cal diet and with the exception of about 10 lbs, i kept it off for about 10 years. the way i did it was by teaching aerobics classes. as soon as i gave that up the weight started to creep back on & it was a rollercoaster of dieting after that. i still exercise but i think being in the spotlight back then ( & much younger) must have made me more conscious or something. any one else see the show? what did you think? Guest guest
I would never, for all the gold in fort knox, watch "biggest loser". I despise reality tv, and I've had it up to here with being shamed for being fat. That said, it doesn't surprise me to hear that past contestants who exercise as a profession keep the weight off. I know, in my own life, that it's always been easiest to lose weight & keep it off when exercise is a part of my daily routine. When I was in grad school a couple of years ago, I was carless, and I walked everywhere. The pounds simply fell off. It was totally effortless. Now I have a car, in a cold climate, and I drive everywhere. My weight is stable (thankfully, after a year of IE), but I'm not losing any weight. That's where I'm at today, and that's okay. Guest guest
This Wednesday I went to a local Intuitive Eating Workshop here in Vancouver. It's focus was on emotional eating. It was pretty good. It was put on by two women that have had their own struggles with disordered eating who now have counciling businesses to help others with their struggles. Another nice thing about it is that it only cost $20.00 to attend. It was only two hours, so there is only so much that can be covered in two hours, but they they were very organized, new exactly what they were going to present and did a great job. They helped to put some things in perspective for me. They had some unique ways of explaining things and it helps me to hear the same thing said in different ways. I think there was a number of women there (I was the only guy) that were not very well versed in IE, so it was nice just to see them spreading the word. This is just the third in a series of 4 workshops. I think I'll attend the next one in January. ARNIE
Guest guest
Hi Arnie, I love attending workshops but am too far away here in NJ. I'm glad you're enjoying them and finding them useful. Guest guest
Arnie thanks for the feedback. You are very inspiring for continuing on and not letting your being the only guy stop you too. I bet all the gals where impressed and inspired by you too Different feedback and perspectives help lots in 'refreshing' non-diet principles for me too. Bravo to these ladies for holding workshops!! Makes me wish that there was a network of such people so that they could share materials and information so that others could have additional workshops in their areas too.
