Guest guest
Please, anyone with suggestions on what I could give , 3yo, 32 lbs, for a bad cough that is keeping him awake and a runny nose. I think he is also having a lot of postnasal drip, probably part of the reason for the cough. I appreciate your help! Guest guest
If your child can tolerate honey..... Honey and ginger make a great cough remedy that's legal. Mix 1/4 teaspoon of powdered ginger (the kind you'd use for baking) with 2 Tablespoons of honey. Stir well....... then give one teaspoon (perhaps less for a younger child)..... let him just lick it off the spoon...... every couple of hours. Squeeze a lemon wedge into hot water and mix in some honey for a " tea " that's really soothing to a raw throat with a cold. If the weather's hot, you might want to ice this...... and have him sip it. I've used plain saline for stuffy nose..... and good old Vick's Vap-O-Rub, either rubbed on the chest or a teensy bit just inside the nostril with a Q-tip. good luck..... Patti, mom to Katera need SCD legal cough/runny nose symptom relief Pls! Guest guest
Thanks for the advice Patti. Sorry for my lack of knowledge, does the powdered ginger come like other spices in a jar or can and can it be purchased at the grocery store? He is so sensitive to all tastes and smells, I'm not sure if he can tolerate Vicks but will give it a try. Thanks so much. Bedtime draws near. Guest guest
Yes, the ginger is found in the regular grocery store, right alongside all the other common spices.... just like cinnamon, cloves, that sort of thing.
