My cynical side is popping up this morning!

If the ADA wants to change it, that's good enough reason for me wanting to

keep it HbA1c!

Besides, my fingers have learned how to type that!

, T2, etc.........

I read in the paper or somwhere that it used to be HbA1c but the ADA

is trying to get it switched to just A1c. As long as everyone knows

what test we are talking about, it is a small point, but you made me

curious.

You can add another cynic's vote to keeping it HbA1c. Why would the ADA

want the change? Could they think we DMers are too dense to be able to

add two letters?

Another cynic when it comes to the ADA. You'd think the ADA could focus

their time, money and energy on something more significant like

understaning what goes into a diabetic meal plan, understanding the

glycemic index and load and teaching it to dietitians and CDEs. IMHO that

would be a good start to making the ADA worth something.

I whole-heartedly agree . In fact, if the ADA would update their

philosophy and standards, new diabetics like me wouldn't have nearly as

much trouble getting the kind of treatment plan we need. Instead, I

have had to bicker and argue with my health care people and all of it

has been to no avail...............

Sounds simple doesn't it. Just " update " their philosophy and standards.

Do you realize that the ADA has been stuck in the dark ages since

before I was dx'd, 45 years ago. The upside of the situation is that you

were lucky that you ran into the brick wall of health care professionals

who are attached to the ADA game plan. You were smart enough to look for

alternatives to what you recognized as detrimental treatment and you

found what you needed, I hope, on the net and this list. Maybe it is true

that everything happens (or doesn't happen) for a reason.
