Update on

Dear Family & Friends,

Regrettably, has failed to make any progress since her shunt

revision and introduction of seizure medication last week. She is

barely holding her own. We are going ahead with surgery to remove the

large frontal menningioma which we hope will provide relief from the

devastating condition she has been in for the past 67 days. She has had

a complete physical and is generally in good health. Events will be; an

MRI today (Tuesday), an angiogram and tumor embolization sometime

Wednesday and surgery Thursday. We anticipate the surgery will take as

little as four or as many as eight hours. I expect she will stay in ICU

for one to three days and in the hospital for ten days to two weeks from

today before (hopefully) transferring to rehab. There will probably not

be much for me to communicate until Monday or Tuesday, so I will refrain

from e-mailing again until then. If you want to contact me you can try

my cell phone 248/894-6864 or, my pager 248/586-6407 and I will call you

back first chance I get - which with cell phone restrictions throughout

the hospital may take a while - or, I will try to call you back after 9

PM when I can make calls more easily.

Isn't this bentoak , who only had meningiomas? Sorry If I have got this

wrong. It did seem like this went in for something routine, which got

complicated. Gosh, it seems a bit strange to go ahead with another surgery

under these circumstances.

Mike told me she was from Farmington, Michigan and is in Henry Ford

Hospital. I agree, I did not realize this was going to be so serious.

Update on

Family & Friends,

Just a quick not to let everyone know that had a relatively good

weekend in the ICU. She was taken off the respirator this morning

(Monday) and is fairly alert. Her right arm and leg remain very strong,

her left leg is not quite as strong as her right and, the best news is

that she has begun moving her left arm. The mild tremor or seizure

activity on the right side of her body remains and is being treated with

anti-seizure medication, which we hope will provide relief soon.

Assuming continues to make good progress towards recovery, ) I

will e-mail again in a week or 10 days.

Update on

Dear Family & Friends,

I hardly know what to say any more. Today is just under 100 days since

all this began and is again being transferred back to Henry Ford

Hospital. The past week at Beaumont rehab failed to stimulate her or

improve her mental condition. At Ford, they will attend to a few

medical issues and try to wean her from a strong anticonvulsant that may

be keeping her from " waking up " . I suspect she will be at Ford for

another week to 10 days and then go to a nursing home for an

indeterminate period of time. With a very heavy heart we are starting

to grapple with the thought that the nursing home stay may turn out to

be permanent. At this point it is a very frightening and real

possibility.

Generally, she is being very well cared for, she is kept comfortable and

has been pain-free. She is able to eat and drink with assistance and

she responds / speaks with us and the doctors and therapists from time

to time. She is and has been totally unaware of the ordeal she has been

thru. With the exception of a brief period of physical therapy earlier

in the summer she has been totally bedridden. Wherever she has been,

physical and occupational therapy work with her daily to keep her arms

and legs flexible and to try and maintain her strength. Between Adam,

, Shirley and Harold and me, we are with her constantly. One of

us is there from before she opens her eyes in the morning until after

she goes to sleep at night. Her brothers and Ron have visited and

and Janis have come in from Texas and Chicago and plan to return

to continue helping out. Dear friends have visited from Rochester, NY

and even Dr Komorn (ENT from Houston) who was involved in 's

initial diagnosis in 1983 visited her while in Detroit last week. If I

have overlooked anyone, please forgive me. We appreciate all the cards,

phone calls, e-mail, visits, gifts, contributions and support from

everyone. We know everyone has supported us as they can and we deeply

appreciate it, from the bottom of our hearts. This has been and

continues to be a very, very difficult time for us and I am sure we have

a good distance yet to travel. I will continue to keep you posted as

developments arise.
