Guest guest
I am so new to this and Im still trying to sort out whether all this is rosacea or I have some weird disease that none of my doctors can diagnose. Besides for my face and hands getting red and hot I can sometimes feel that same sensation in other areas of my body.( stomach area or front of thighs) Does anyone else ever have symptoms like this? I almost feel like Im having an allergic reaction too something. Can anyone relate? Thanks
Guest guest
Barb, Do all of these areas all turn red, burn, and feel hot to the touch, like a sunburn? It does sound like vascular dilation symptoms in these areas. These symptoms are most common around the face since the facial skin is thinner, or so the docs have told me. Have you had allergy testing, blood analysis etc? What were the results? Guest guest
Hey Barb, I used to get those spells with the hot, flaming red areas of skin after showering and using body moisturizer...once in a while I'll buy a different kind to try, if I get the bright red knees, elbows, hands and feet, then you can bet that the lotion has mineral oil in it! It took quite a few red itchy spells before I finally figured it out. Then I tested it....after a shower, regular lotion on one leg, and something with mineral oil on the other...only the " other " leg turned red and felt very hot to the touch... it took a few days to calm down, even after the next shower. There's another one too.....after much agony I discovered that Downey fabric softener is a major offender to my skin! These are things that never used to bother me....one of the bennies of aging I guess. Guest guest
Carolyn, Barb, Downey bothers me also; it causes me to break out in a body rash. " Bounce " is also an irritant. I quit using fabric softeners years ago. Good idea about the body lotion. I have also gotten body rashes from using mineral oil as a moisturizer after taking showers. Guest guest
Barb - during rosacea flares I also have burning and painful sensitivity over fronts of legs, backs of arms, shoulders, and scalp. Oddly, these sensations are particularlly painful in my ear canals and nasal mucosa, and are accompanied by constant low grade nose bleeds. In my case this is a reflection of a systemic imflammatory response. I have an autoimmune disease - collagen vascular disease. Perhaps you are experiencing a more generalized allergic or inflammotory reaction that also exacerbates your rosacea. If this persists it might be a good time to have allergy tests done. I get some relief with attention to skin barriers and a variety of prescription anti-inflammatories. When I first complained of this problem my derm gave me the total brush off - luckly my rheumatologist is more aware of the spectum of inflammatory behaviors. Good luck. Darlene, Here is a brief description which I am pasting from a medical web site. I am also including a link to the web site below the following pasted text. There is more information on the web site. -Jim Collagen vascular disease Definition: Collagen is a tough, glue-like protein that represents 30% of the body protein and shapes the structure of tendons, bones, and connective tissues. Malfunctioning of the immune system can affect blood vessels which in turn affects the connective tissues. Collagen vascular diseases include: rheumatoid arthritis systemic lupus erythematosus periarteritis nodosa scleroderma dermatomyositis polyarteritis nodosa The web site is at http://www.healthcentral.com/mhc/top/001223.cfm Jim Re: heat > Hi, > > Could you tell me what collagen vascular disease is? > > Darlene >
