I think what she means is the process of telling yourself positive

affirmations while looking in the mirror - finding even one thing that

you

can praise about yourself (great smile, kind eyes, etc) ... but it's not

anything you " have " to do in IE - just a practice that some people find

helpful..

AAAAAAH

thanks. Was a great book I ran into (name I dont recall now though

its somewhere in my library of books no doubt) that asked you to say a

positive thing about yourself each and everyday whenever a negative

thought instead entered your head. Something simply like - I have a

pretty smile. I have great green eyes. I have a husband who

loves me. I have good looking legs. etc etc etc. with a different

thought each day chosen.

That one thought repeated each day all day long whenever you had

negative thoughts and then for day two a different positive thing about

yourself to the tune of an entire month 28=30 days of each day a

different great thought ABOUT YOU repeated all day long

They said if you could make it a positive statement each and every day

and a different one each day that your whole attitude about life and

yourself and self image would change for the better. Sad thing for me

was I never got past day 4-5 maybe I got to day 8 one time..just forgot

about it -went back I suppose to thinking instead negative little barbs

about myself or life in general instead.

See if I can find the book - to give you the title. Was about major

life changes perhaps career changes as well and your acceptance of

life and yourself. I keep thinking it was the parachute book but its

not. Might be that huge huge book that my Sister Helen was

reading one time

Hi Bonnie,

I'm really glad you found Intuitive Eating and also Geneen Roth; I love her books also and she was the very first "sane" author I'd read back when I was only 24. And now I"m 46 :.)

It must have been just a terrible situation with the surgery having gone wrong! I really sympathize with you. I admire you for saying "no more" to diets and surgery and to having the determination to find a better way for yourself.

I was also 300Lb at one time; I'd say now I am about 240Lb but I don't weigh so that's a guess. I think what I love most about IE is I am hardly focused on my weight anymore. And I know that my weight and size 18/20 isn't something everyone could like, but to be really, really honest with you I look in the mirror and I DO like how I look, right now, even if I don't lose any more weight. It's strange because when I was 20, the way I look now would have horrified me, lol, but back then I absolutely hated how I looked and I was size 12. Now I really like how I look and I'm much larger. My ideas of the ideal body have changed drastically; I don't have an ideal body type anymore.

Glad you're here and posted, and looking forward to getting to know you here on-line.

Laurie

I've been a member of this group for about a month now and I just want to thank you all for participating. ....you make this group rock. I weigh over 300 lbs and recently had to have a gastric lap band removed as it not only didn't work for me but it embedded itself into my stomach and liver. Needless to say, I have travelled the road of diet after diet and then in desperation went as far as weight loss surgery. I have now read all of Geneen Roth's books and believe I have finally found a way out of my compulsion. I am taking little steps but every time I take a step in the direction of truly nuturing myself

Bonnie the extra A is something I have noticed before with other posts too. My

guess is that its a font related occurrence? How a post 'looks' is not as

important as what it contains - just like us people ;-) Post on and don't sweat

the A popping up, but I noticed that this post I'm replying to didn't have it so

you must have changed something for the 'better' :)

> Many thanks to all who answered my post. I really appreciate and will

follow-up on the suggestions of attending an IE seminar in Vancouver (it just

happens that I live just outside of Vancouver, in Maple Ridge) and I'm also

going to check out the Geneen Roth site suggested. Christmas is a bit tough

because it seems that I have food coming at me from every direction but though

far from perfect I feel that I'm finally on the right path. And yes, I too was

once a size 12 and thought I was huge!! My we are hard on ourselves aren't we?

I also must apologize for the weird A's that appeared after every period I typed

in my last post. That doesn't show up on my screen and I don't know what causes

it...anybody out there know what I'm doing wrong?? Bonnie
