Hi Guys,

Boy oh boy.....before my hubby started on Armour he had his blood

work done through Healthcheck. Symptom-wise he had a HR in the 50s,

day-time temp around 97, always freezing, ridiculously, and lots of

joint pain. His TSH came back at 2.11. With the symptoms and the TSH

above 2 we decided to start him on Armour. Now his HR is in the 70s,

temps fluctuate but do reach above 98, he has shed the

longjohns, :-), and his joint pain is gone. For the last, he is

ecstatic. His last TSH measured 0.1 just last week.

Now here starts the good story! It was a good thing that we did that

bloodwork because his bilirubin was a little elevated. No symptoms

of cholestasis. We decided to watch and repeat the blood in a few

months. Well, from this last draw we found that his bilirubin has

elevated! We decided to have him visit our doc ( novelty ) so that

the blood could be rechecked and the bilirubin broken down into

conjugated vs. unconjugated ( healthcheck doesn't do this )

So, he walks into the doc office with his first labs from

Healthcheck in hand....so as not to cause the doc to pass out about

the 2nd low TSH post Armour......when he doesn't even know hubby is

on thyroid meds. Both the nurse and the doc have absolutely NO idea

that people can go out and get their own blood work done. After many

minutes of confusion and disbelief on their part....they ask him if

he had it run at a veterinary lab as dog blood! Could they be more

stupid? Could they think he is more stupid than that? For those of

you unfamiliar....apparently, the doc remembers my husband as being

married to me, a veterinarian. Why do they recall things like that?

I saw him twice years ago for my pneumonia. I guess they pictured me

drawing blood from my huband and thinking I would be " smart " by

submitting it as dog blood? ( thanks a LOT! ) My husband came back

with a calm answer. He said, " if I were to submit my blood through a

veterinary lab I would know enough to submit it as primate blood. "

After the doc recovered from the bloodwork shock, he filled out

paperwork to have a full liver panel done. The rest of the

appointment the doc talked to my husband about his own dog and its

Lyme Dz!? My husband is not a veterinarian, I am. But human doctors

seem to feel close association with a vet provides full knowledge

and interest I guess....or that all my husband could be interested

in talking about is people's animals where he decided to go ahead

and marry a veterinarian!??? How about talking about cholestasis???

THEN>>>>as my hubby is leaving, the doc races out and decides to add

to the bloodwork order....he says, " on the off chance....I am having

them check your TSH. " !!! :-O

This poor doc! He is going to get back bloodwork that makes NO

sense! He doesn't know hubby is on Armour...and you know how that

would go anyway. He is going to find normal levels of TT4 ( that is

all they look at ) and a very LOW TSH. He will be thoroughly

confused....or think that he has publication material!

Hubby will have to tell the poor man why his TSH is so low.

What a mess!

Pretty bad when a DOCTOR doesn't know better than to think you would run it as

dog blood! LOL

How long did it take for your husband to start feeling better (aches/pains, etc)

after he started on the Armour?
